The 2013 Billboard Music Awards are returning to Las Vegas on Sunday, May 19 and will honor the legendary artist Prince during a live ABC broadcast from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The awards will reflect Billboard's chart rankings based on key fan interactions with music, including album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring as well as streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, Youtube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound. The awards will be based on the reporting period of Feb. 27, 2012 through Feb. 24, 2013. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, including R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative.

Chart-topping artists join Prince as live acts for May 19 broadcast on ABC; tickets go on sale April 4
Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars, who have all topped the Billboard 200 in the past year, as well as critically acclaimed R&B stylist Miguel, are each set to perform at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, airing live on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 19.
They join previously announced performer Prince, who will be honored with the Billboard Icon Award during the broadcast, produced by Don Mischer and sponsored by Chevrolet and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The Milestone Award
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards, airing May 19 live on ABC, will celebrate the ingenuity of this year's hitmakers with the new Milestone Award, presented by Chevrolet. It's up to you to decide who wins! The six finalists are artists whose amazing achievements on the Billboard charts in the past year have exemplified originality and skill. Vote for your favorite below and check back late April to see which three make it to the final round.
