Jay-Z talks Twitter, critics, this generation and more
This interview was everything !
On twitter:
"I love it. twitter is like weed. it's good. but too much of it is not good for me."
MCHG being his 4th place as best work: "Fighting for that spot you gotta go thru Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint & The Black Album.
It was different times anyways so..."
On today's rap game: "Good music is out there, you just mine for it. people were rapping because they loved to rap then it became this multi-billion dollar business so people who didn't care to rap wanted to rap because they saw money in it.. for example Biggie told puff to rap. he never rapped before. an sold 7 million records so people emulate that... no disrespect to anybody [laughs] "
Which of your artist that you signed, has inspired you ? "Kanye.. the most successful at his career, his growth, the progress he has made is unbelievable. he use to say "I am the savior of Chicago" and I use to be like 'what you don't even have a single out yet [laughs] but he proved right"
On 'Yeezus': "Some people like it. some people don't but it forces you to have an opinion which is good and needed. I love it..."
On critics: "I think reviews have lost a lot of it's importance because of the internet. everyone is experiencing things at the same time. the critics became important in the first place because they would get the music 2 months in advance. they would sit with it.. review it.. they send it out a month ahead of time and you would read in magazines the upcoming albums like 'oh this album is going to be dope" now you music comes out so fast and you writing reviews in a day !.. you cannot rate an album in a day it's impossible.. and it's bullsh*t"
On the generation going by so fast: Jay Z is out, week later... on to J. cole... week later.. Wale: "It's the time we live in. everything is moving so fast. infomarion is out so fast. it's up to the individual to slow it down"
On the whole legendary Nas 'Ether' takeover thing: "It was a great moment in time for HipHop.. we laugh about it now. it's so far in the background. it's not awkward at all.."
On the state of New York musically:
That's the way music moves. out west, down south, complaining does nothing. everyone is so spoiled. when I was coming up.. my album came out with Lauryn Hill, Outkast & Q tip and we all were winning. you gotta earn your spot.. that spoiled brat mentality is annoying.
On Fatherhood:
I hope I'm great. but I'm learning. it's a new thing for me.
On Diaper changing:
I got an army. It's hard man [laughs]'"
On who's still gonna be here in 10 years: "J. Cole, Drake, Kendrick, Wale.."
On Wayne / Rocafella deal fallout: "I would rather lose that and do the right thing, then the opposite. I could've signed Wayne and told him later.. but no."
On people saying If Biggie was here, you wouldn't be:
"I was here and when Biggie was here. It was all in god's hands."
On people saying what Jay Z knows about sports: "A lot... more than you. [laughs]"
"Kanye.. the most successful at his career, his growth, the progress he has made is unbelievable. he use to say "I am the savior of Chicago" and I use to be like 'what you don't even have a single out yet [laughs] but he proved right"
