Christina Aguilera will make her screen debut for Screen Gems in "Burlesque," a contemporary musical that Steven Antin will direct. Antin wrote a script that was revised by "Erin Brockovich" scribe Susannah Grant.
Aguilera will play an ambitious smalltown girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club that appears to be right out of Bob Fosse's "Cabaret."
Donald De Line will produce. Pic will shoot late this year.
While Aguilera has won four Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy and has sold more than 25 million albums, she has never starred in a film, though she lent her voice to the animated "Shark Tale."
"I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind," Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper said.
I hope this doesn't interfere with promo for the new album. And this film doesn't sound like the edgy role that she was holding out for. We must trust our legend though, she knows what shes doing.
Yeah I hope it's nothing like Moulin Rouge. Besides the Lady Marmelade cover it really wasn't very good.
Sounds like Cabaret, Moulin Rouge! and Chicago. That means, SOUNDS AMAZING.
I love musicals, but if this is released this year it will be overshadowed by "Nine", the musical that Harvey Weinstein's producing.
Oh good, so I guess they'll release it in 2010
it's gon' be like Moulin Rouge! (2001) and Chicago (2002)
Only that NINE will win a lot of Oscars, it's got Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench , N Kidman, Kate Hudson, Sophia Loren and FERGIE in it
