Yep. I'm starting off with a video intro this time . 2016 was been a really transitional year for me. I got my first actual job. Minimum wage, sure, but it's another step towards independence for me as it's my own money. Hell, I recorded that video intro just two hours after getting home from work. And if you wonder why I'm not in the games section AS much, there's part of your answer. And ultimately, trying to look for a room to rent too. So yeah, this meltdowm maniac isn't really having meltdowns anymore, or if I am, it's rather organized. But every now and then, you gotta light a fire up.
Anyways, this year I'm covering:
Top 100 Songs of 2016
20 Worst Songs of 2016
20 Most Overrated Songs of 2016
- Plus other tidbits thrown in during the course of this.
Just barely scraping the Top 100 is the song that put some life into Rihanna's latest era. Honestly, I don't see why this song spent 9 weeks on the Hot 100. Too much gibberish and Drake's autotune is kinda annoying here (though not as bad as on his own songs #oop). I think the Meme associated with the song "my life is like the Rihanna song. I work but don't understand the rest" is better than the song itself . This song is ok at the best. Still low-key bop, but very overrated (hint hint) from this year. It's lucky it got to chart.
99. Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello - Bad Things
It's really funny how Machine Gun Kelly has been around longer than Camila has been, but it's the success of HER girl group that most likely led to this unexpected collab. Because I mean, it's because of her that this song is currently Top 40 on the Hot 100. Hopefully MGK is thankful for Camila, since prior to this he had no Top 40 exposure. This song is pretty neat though. I mean, he's a bad boy. He's got a flat ass, but I wouldn't kick him out of bed either. Oh, and he's got nice things that I wouldn't blame Camila for doing bad things to :gaycat:
98. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault
Honestly, for someone that got her first Top 40 hit this year with a really nice song, it's a disappointment that her first official new song has a pretty annoying instrumental. Catchy, but not that impressive and polarizing. Thankfully she still has two entries in this list.
97. Sia f. Kendrick Lamar - The Greatest
Riding off the success of Cheap Thrills, Sia releases a song with the hot call-a-rapper of the moment. It's a cute song, but it's not as good as Cheap Thrills was.
96. Meghan Trainor - Me Too
This song was fun at first and it has a cute music video, but I honestly think this song killed the era. She came off as way too arrogant on this song and I think it turned off a lot of people. That's why Better flopped, which is without a doubt a much better song than this. The pre-chorus can be inspirational though if you take it out of the song and the chorus can be a nice f you to haters. But the rest of the song is too cocky.
95. Adele - Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
Adele made the right choice by releasing this song for the summer months, and it's nice to have a song like this in her discography. But compared to Rumour Has It, this song had potential to be sassier than it was and what really bothered me about this song was the lyrics in the chorus. What does them not being kids anymore have to do with letting go of an ex? Wasn't Adele already an adult during this relationship? Aside from that, radio played this a lot, and I also heard this a lot at work, so I didn't really play it so much on my own. Just a cute song in Adele's discography to add variety.
94. Selena Gomez - Kill Em With Kindness
Selena was such a dumb bitch for releasing this as a song. It's #39 peak is proof of this. It's cute to listen to every now and then, but she should've kept this as an album track and released Sober. What a waste of a song. At least this song has a nice message.
93. Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling
You can't go wrong with new JT. I guess this song was just too cute for me, plus I heard it all the time at work. But it's catchy and makes you feel good. When you're in the mood for it.
92. P!nk - Just Like Fire
P!nk had the same problem as JT. Cute song, but I heard it all the time on the radio. I also forgot that both of these songs are pretty basic and didn't really click with me outside of the radio or work. But this song had a cute video and P!nk getting a Top 10 out of this at her age is impressive regardless.
91. Lady GaGa - Perfect Illusion
After the absolutely terrible ARTPOP era, I really had doubts in whether I would like GaGa's that much again. But after she had the Cheek 2 Cheek era and the American Horror Story work, I figured she'd have something fresh on the table that I'd like. I guess she sort of did that. I didn't love Perfect Illusion when I first heard it, and I still don't LOVE it, but I do like it and it's a lot more relateable than Applause, which to this day I've still never even illegally downloaded. The key change was cute too. Plus, the brightside of this song not doing that well on the charts means I can enjoy this at my own warranty instead of radio overplaying it.
Extra Tidbit:
Team Megamix
Features: Team, Hey Mama, Problem, NO, Work, Work From Home, Sorry, Worth It, Partition, Lean On, Levels, Hoedown Throwdown, #SELFIE, Dessert, Beg For It, Focus, That's How You Know, Hands To Myself
I definltey like a good megamix when I find one. Putting all these songs to Team's beat was pretty neat, since Iggy's original song just sucks. It was really good of Andy to find a use for such an impressive beat like Team's.
Coming up tomorrow:
- The first entry from a rumored gay dude
- A girl who is of mixed race
- Spiral Girl
- A woman who describes herself in a song
- Etc
