Tinder has introduced an update to increase the number of genders on its app under its #AllTypesAllSwipe campaign.
The move follows criticism of the app for being transphobic by only offering male and female options for users.
As part of the new update, Tinder will introduce 37 new gender options for users to identify themselves including ‘Transgender’, ‘Trans woman/man’ and a tailored gender, such as ‘Trans…x’.
Quote:
In order to update their gender settings, users edit their profile as normal, hitting ‘I Am’ and selecting ‘More’.
From here, users can type a word that describes their gender identity or pick a search result which best reflects their identity.
Wait, I spoke too soon. The inclusion of trans (MtF, FtM) options is great. Although, it's sort of problematic that "trans male" and "trans female" are considered genders? Wouldn't that just make them "male" and "female"? They need to work on the integration of that.
Genders like "two-sprit", "gender queer", "transmasculine", "Neutrois" though.
But why though
Most "non-binary" tend to stick with each other anyway
That's why they think there's more of them then there actually is
But at least it'll satisfy the four people who I identify as one or more of these
