Usher called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to give his opinion on Phillip Phillips performing his single “U Got It Bad” during “American Idol,” and to chat about his collaborations with Justin Bieber and others on his album ‘Looking For Myself’.
Working With Justin Bieber:
“Major. Me and Bieber have been talking about it on Twitter. That we’re workin’ on a record that we finished. I won’t tell you too much about it. I just want to continue to surprise you. You know the era of mystique is missing from this era in time? So, that little bit of mystique that we have left…that anticipation…I’m going to hold onto. It’s coming real soon, me and Bieber.”
On American Idol Contestant Phillip Philips:
“I heard about it. It was incredible. Well, judging from everyone calling me, including my grandmother to tell me about it!”
On Performing With David Guetta At Coachella:
“Moments like that only happen one time in history. It was an impromptu moment. We just happened to be backstage…and he was like ‘You know we should get up on the stage and perform our record here. They’ll love it. And I was like ‘Of course, let do it!’”
On Working With Pharrell:
“The record that me and Pharrell worked one are records were out of our catalog of incredible records. We built them from scratch and bringing all the worlds together we made something real special.”
On Hearing “Scream” For The First Time:
“This album is built on different layers and different feelings. So this one song ["Scream"] was very specific. I felt like me and Max [Martin] had a an incredible chemistry the last time so why not go at it again. But this time we’re going to make you scream.”
Who Did You Work With?
“It goes everywhere. I worked with Diplo with Rico Love and Jim Jonsin. I worked with Salaam Remi. Just the likes of the industry that I had always really wanted to. I had a few duets. I worked with Pharrell once again. I got Rick Ross on a record that I did with Jim Johnson. It’s going to be cool. It’s a little bit of something for everyone on this album.”
