BEST BREAKOUT ARTIST: CARLY RAE JEPSEN!
Carly Rae Jepsen is honestly one of my favorite artists. This girl was unknown in January and overnight she was on everyone's iPods and had us bopping to her song all year. Call Me Maybe is a pop classic and a gem.
Good Time is a great summer song. Adam Young did a pretty good job with that.
Kiss is the perfect bubblegum pop album. Every single song is a bop.

I actually love that she isn't too over the top. That's not her. She didn't start out with pop, she did folk/alt/indie stuff first but she transitioned because she liked the sound. She can sing live too, which is a plus.

7. medoner and the other nekci menij characters
The Nekci Menij Show took the online stan culture by storm by poking fun at constant stan wars. The text to speech voices and MS Paint created scenes made this show unforgettable. Medoner is a standout character, as the creator is a Madonna stan and loves to rip her to shreds.

6. Lana Del Rey
Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey, is a baroque pop artist. Her hypnotizing vocals and a vintage, melancholy personality from Born To Die and Paradise is what made her stand out. And let's not forget her drug references and the daddy fetish. Lana's a very unique artist, and even though I'm not a huge fan, I appreciate her. a lot.

Before I start, I want to give an honorable mention to Ke$ha. When I came up with the countdown I completely forgot about her. Her fun trashy pop is always welcome. I really glad Ke$ha is back.




NUMBER 5: MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS

Marina Diamandis aka Marina and the Diamonds, is an indie-pop artist. Her recent effort, Electra Heart, is filled with deep, ironic pop with tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Her albums are great pieces of work and she's a wonderful human being.
