JLO : "I don't get credit for being great at one thing"
Quote:
"I think because I do a lot of different things, I don't get credit for being great at one thing like some people are," Lopez, 44, said of her mixed-medium career. "Somebody once told me, 'One of the best things is when people underestimate you, because then you can always surprise them.'"
She is large, she contains multitudes: "I did a couple of dance records and people want me to do a dance album. Or they think I should go back to being 'Jenny From the Block,'" she laughs. "I am dance, I am pop, I am R&B, I am hip-hop, I am Latin, I am 'Jenny From the Block.' But I am also 'Jenny From Rodeo Drive.' It was about embracing all those things musically, everything about me emotionally, and putting that into lyrics and sound for this album."
"These last four years, I felt like I really had to look at myself. One of the things I realized was I had to love myself a little bit more," said Lopez, who lives in Los Angeles. "That was a huge lesson for me. My kids [she and Anthony had twins in 2008] taught me that. They teach you a sort of unconditional kind of love and what it should feel like. It's very selfless and pure.
"The breakup [of her marriage] just made me go make some real realizations about myself. When you get to the point of loving yourself … you start going, 'OK, well, who am I?' Myself happens to be many things. Do I love all those parts? The good parts, the messy parts. And when I said that, so many things happened for this album."

Well truly she only deserves credit for being a great dancer and a (sometimes) decent actress. No one listens to J.Lo albums for powerhouse vocals 'cause they know they ain't getting that from ha.
Not to say she's not involved in her music tho, I'm sure she is. 'I Luh Ya Papi' is proof.

She didn't lie. She's had success in so many aspects of her career - music, movies, fashion, TV, even behind the scenes stuff with The Fosters - and she's still paid mad dust. She should be much more respected than she actually is and it makes me sad.

Once again, the hive breaking their heels running into another J. Lo thread to throw some weak shade.
She has opened so many doors for Latinas in both the music and film industry, the TV show she produces, The Fosters, is groundbreaking, she was the Most Powerful Entertainer of 2012 as declared by Forbes Magazine, and while she might not be the best singer, she has grown so much vocally compared to her first 2 albums.
While your faves may be slaying in their own lane, J. Lo is slaying and has slayed in every single one of them, be it movies, music, television, fashion, production and in general.

I just read the article and it's a great read but I really hope she does Shades of Blue. That, along with Lila & Eve, are the projects I'm most excited about.

She's talking about her artistic talents...not her success.

I've always complained that she does so many things yet it always comes off as mediocre/decent. To me it feels like someone having multiple jobs JUST to make a lot of money, she probably sees music and acting as a business instead of art.
She's a really good dancer tho

So what? Lots of actors even admit to doing movies for the paychecks. There's nothing wrong with it.
Anyways, Bordertown and El Cantante were passion projects for her, in terms of acting, and she wasn't paid much for An Unfinished Life and still did it because she loved the script. And while her two first albums weren't great or very personal (aside from a few songs), This Is Me... Then was full of songs she was passionate about and songs that she co-wrote herself about her relationship. Same with Rebirth and a few songs off Brave. Listen to A.K.A, where she had creative input in every single track minus "First Love" and you'll see that although that might have been true at the beginning of her musical career, it's far from true now.
She also took a huge risk with deciding to produce The Fosters and she did it for personal reasons (as a tribute to her aunt), not for the money.

That's because she's great at nothing. Everything she's ever done has been mediocre at best.

I agree, I underestimated her for so long until just recently I began to recognize her talent, she's truly a triple threat.
