DRAKE'S DISCOUNT DECISION
Quote:
YMCMB/Republic’s Drake will edge Warner Bros.’ Red Hot Chili Peppers to score a record-breaking eighth consecutive week on the HITS Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) chart today, thanks to a two-day $6.99 discount on all DSPs that pushed him past the Peppers by around 5k units (the sale added 8k in incremental units, without which he'd have landed at #2). Here's how it looks:
Drake (YMCMB/Republic) 121k SPS
Red Hot Chili Peppers (Warner Bros.) 116k SPS
RHCP will still have the #1 spot on our Album Sales chart; stay tuned for the full chart rundowns later today. Barring any massive surprises, Drake will have a ninth #1 on the SPS chart next week.

The Chilis will certainly be #1 on this week’s Album Sales chart, beating out second place by more than 3-1. Radiohead re-enters the top 15 on our sales chart, thanks to this week’s physical release.

THIS WEEK'S CHART BATTLE, WITH STRONG PEPPERS
Quote:
It looks like we’ll have another chart battle this week, as Warner Bros.’ Red Hot Chili Peppers attempt to dethrone Drake, who’s had an unprecedented seven-week run atop the HITS Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) chart. Both titles appear headed to the 110-115k SPS range. Here’s an updated look at this week’s new releases.
Red Hot Chili Peppers (Warner Bros.) 110-115k SPS, 100-105k albums
Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 30-35k, 27-30k
YG (Def Jam) 35-40k, 24-27k
Jon Pardi (Capitol Nashville) 20-23k, 17-20k
In election news, Donald Trump has fired campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who will reportedly be replaced by a couple of interns from The Apprentice and a Ouija board.

Come on, let's go, Red Hot.
100k already feels so low given your past albums.
Even for an EP, that Mumford release seems super low. They were huge for a few years - over 6 million copies of Sigh+Babel sold in the US this decade.
I mean, Troye Sivan's EP got 30k (and another 45k), Pentatonix's 46k, Incubus's 39k...

I'm rooting for RHCP this week. Drake can go back to #1 next week.
Yeah those are disappointing #s for the legends, oh well.

Their last album did 230K, I was expecting Drake to finally lose. The fact that it's close.
If Drake gets an 8th week, the last male album to spend more consecutive weeks at #1 will have been Billy Ray Cyrus in 1992 with "Some Gave All".

Visions of my concerns about the double counting aspects in 2015 are coming back to me now.
That said,
pull through Drake.

Yes, they had the lead single go #1 on Alternative, Adult Alternative, and Rock.
But the single didn't move the album THAT much. They're still a well known band with a huge following which is why the drop is surprising.

The album spent 17 weeks at #1 and went 9x Platinum.
The following album peaked at #3 and went 1x Plat, and the one following it peaked at #73 and went Gold though. So I guess he was a 1 album wonder.
