I LOLED HARD.
I see nothing wrong with what she said. The performer should have just maned up and said something, he basically confirmed it by looking annoyed.
"Hi there. I want to clear up exactly what happened on last night's X Factor show and post my sincere apologies to anyone who took offense. I made a comment about Danyl changing the lyrics of his song (And I'm Telling You - Dreamgirls). It was meant to be a humorous moment about the fact he has an opportunity to have fun with his song. An openly bi-sexual singing a song that is lyrically a 'girl's song'. Danyl and I were joking about the very same thing in rehearsals on Friday, so it carried on to the show. I'd like to apologise to anyone that was offended by my comments, it was never my intention. I spoke to Danyl straight after the show last night and he wasn't offended or upset by my comments, and knew exactly what I was saying. Dx"
We can't necessarily make a big deal about this, seeing as ATRL is generally frequented by Americans. There are cultural differences between the US and the UK and in America many people still think hearing someone be called gay (or bi) is an insult. I think, if anything, Dannii's comments will shed light on the fact that in the entertainment industry so many people feel the need to portray a "straight image" based on what they think the public wants when we should really just accept them for who they are. People shouldn't have to sing about being attracted to women if they aren't... and likewise with singing about men.
