The Mikaelson family tragedies and triumphs continue as THE ORIGINALS enters its third season. The Original vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and his maternal half-brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) have spent one thousand years fighting to protect their dysfunctional family, but now that Klaus and the hybrid Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) share an infant daughter, Hope, the stakes are higher than ever. In the second season, Klaus and Elijah united against their resurrected mother, Esther, who tortured them with demons from their pasts in an effort to persuade them to surrender their vampire bodies and become mortal. Esther, however, was only the harbinger, as Klaus learned that a long-standing curse had marked Hope for a life of isolation and terror at the hands of Esther’s sister, the witch Dahlia, whose defeat came at great cost to the family. Season 3 finds Klaus and Elijah estranged from each other, even as both half-brothers adjust to life with their long-lost sister, Freya (Riley Voelkel). Hayley suffers mightily at the hands of Klaus’s petty vengeance, while Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Davina (Danielle Campbell) rule the city under a new status quo. Meanwhile, Camille (Leah Pipes) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) find themselves caught up in a surprising mystery involving the newest resident of New Orleans - the first vampire ever sired by the Mikaelsons a thousand years ago.

This has honestly trumped TVD in the last couple of years. It's clear where Julie Plec's focus is.
I don't get the hate for Hayley tbh, it just seems like everyone looks for a reason to hate her because she isn't Team Klaus. It's not like he's a paragon of virtue, she does have some room to question his ethics from time to time, especially considering they share a child. I would've never thought it from her appearances on TVD, but they actually managed to turn her into an interesting female lead on The Originals.

I'm looking for reasons to like her. It's not like I enjoy hating Hayley, just the opposite. If I saw a reason to like her, I'd jump on it. I just hate her because I think she's an awful character.
I don't have an issue with her questioning Klaus, but there's a difference between questioning him and
daggering him
. It's also worth pointing out that her plan to protect Hope would've ended with Dahlia killing her and getting Hope, while Klaus was completely right the entire time, kept Hayley alive, and kept Hope from Dahlia Basically, she was acting like a complete idiot while we're expected to side with her against the one character making any sense.
Phoebe's also a really, really, really terrible actress.
----
I'm still miffed about
Kol dying
, big time. But I'm hoping that they resurrect him. I'm still really excited for Season 3. New characters are looking interesting (especially Tristan and Lucien. And whoever Jason Dohring is playing because I love Jason Dohring)
She's shooting flashbacks, I believe. So are Nathaniel Buzolic and Casper Zafran. Though I'm sure we'll be seeing her in present time. I'd trap her in flashback land if it meant Kol came back tho
I'm really excited to see how Freya's relationship with Klaus and Elijah develops. Freya, from the moment she was introduced, made a far more interesting character than any of the females on the show at that point. The actress is very able too. I just hope they don't make her the Hayley of this season and have her become Hope's babysitter Also I'm fascinated to see the extent of her powers and how they're going to get around her ability to live only for a year.

Really? I actually don't think she's a bad actress (but then again, I'm kinda the type where I don't notice that kind of stuff once I'm into the show).
I just like that she's strong-willed and headstrong, you don't get a lot of female characters like that. I actually liked Elena as well, but I think that for all intents and purposes, she's a refreshing change from that kind of female love interest storyline. Like yeah, Hayley and Elijah is a big pairing but it's not necessarily so defining to Hayley, the way Delena ended up being for Elena - but nevertheless, you still get the feeling that there's a good romance between Hayley/Elijah.
Anyways, coming off the Hayley bit, I'm hoping we get a lot more Freya material as well. I think she works great as Klaus's foil.

Personally, I disagree. Even ignoring Phoebe constantly breaking her American accent and speaking in Aussie, she's pretty wooden. And the few times she DOES go emotional (for example, in the cemetery/woods with Klaus when they were arguing about her marrying Jackson), she's so bad she actually takes me out of the scene.
I feel like Cami is a strong-willed and headstrong female character and I love her. She's fantastic. Leah's a great actress, she's likeable, and she's really the voice of moral reasoning (not pragmatic reasoning) on this show while still having her own flaws. I feel like they really blew it out of the park with her, which I think makes a lot of Hayley's flaws more notable.
Hayley IS strong-willed and headstrong, which aren't necessarily bad traits (see Cami), but she tends to make very, very poor decisions. If you're strong-willed and your RIGHT, the audience likes you. If you're strong-willed about choosing WRONG? It gets really infuriating. That said, above everything, my big issue with Hayley is that the powers that be tried to character assassinate Klaus to prop her up (and failed at it spectacularly, IMO) If Hayley is really a strong female character, I think she should be able to stand on her own rather than them tearing down Klaus and using Elijah to prop her up. But between Phoebe's acting, Hayley's terrible and selfish decision making, the weak werewolf storyline, and how they handle other characters with her around... I personally feel this show would be MUCH stronger without her. No offense to her fans, I know some people love her (all five of them! ), and I respect that, but she drives me absolutely crazy in S2 (I could tolerate her in 1)
I liked Elena until Seasons 3 and especially 4, where she became hypocritical and then committed genocide for selfish reasons. Nina's a good actress, though.
I do like Freya (though she's a little too Rebekah 2.0 for me and probably my least fav. Mikaelson), I definitely hope to see more of her and I'm very interested in what direction her storyline will go. I think she's at her most interesting around Klaus, so I hope those two get paired a lot.
You should catch up! Season 2 was mostly great and I loved Fire With Fire + the finale.
That said, ep 14 is the worst of the show. Whoever thought we should waste a whole episode on a wedding where nothing important happens is
Also killing Kol for no reason
My Thoughts:
Really liking what I see of Lucien, he kinda reminds me of Kol a little bit. Definitely hoping he lasts awhile, or maybe even gets promoted to main and comes back next season.
Tristan seems interesting, though I'm more into Lucien right now. Guess we'll see if I still like him when the show airs.
Van seems pretty annoying. Plus, making him and Davina love interests while she's STILL pissed about Kol is just... so stupid.
Not feeling Aurora at all. It's gonna come down to the actress, a good one might win me over (at least to sorta like, but eh), but a bad one will make me hate her.
Will seems okay, but kinda actor dependent (like Cami) Thankfully, I know Jason's a good actor so I'll probably like him. More interested in Tristan and Lucien though
Finally finished season 1 and marathoned season 2 and and OMG Season 2 is so epic I love. It wasn't even annoying how random ass family members popped up every episode I loved it.
And not only that but my Favorite TVD Universe character Kol finally got to come back.
Not only that but I love both Kol's. Maybe I'm biased because I loved Daniel Sharman as Isaac on Teen Wolf and plus that accent but I'm honestly happy with either being Kol although I'd prefer the Original since Nathaniel has only gotten to play Sexy sadistic Kol. I feel like he'd have an innocence to him that Daniel lacked.
And I love both Rebekah's too. Klaus has to be one of the most frustratingly annoying characters in history but I love him.
