I chose Madonna in the poll, but honestly, the King and Queen of Pop are pretty equal in my mind. He's just more legendary in the eyes of many because of the greater scope of scandals affecting his public image as well as his controversial death.

ARTISTICALLY, Madonna is far superior to Michael Jackson.
It’s undeniable: Jackson spent his entire solo career repeating his own music, the same formula over and over again. His catalog is musically limited. There is nothing “artistic” about repeating the same formula or redoing the same things, especially if the purpose is to achieve the same commercial success as in the days of yore.
On the other hand, Madonna’s musical catalog is endlessly superior, richer and more varied than Michael Jackson’s. Madonna’s body of work is a reflection of her creativity, she truly has an artistic soul. Not only has she changed the direction of her musical work in every step she took, but she also took real artistic risks rarely seen in the business.
It’s rather perplexing how Madonna’s incredible artistic endeavors are overlooked, while Jacskon who repeated his formual is praised and referred to as “amazing”. What’s amazing about singing the same music and performing them the same way for 20 years? Madonna, at the peak of her fame and commercial success (with the Blond Ambition) was transitioning into her Erotica Era! That is what’s called a real artistic and creative risk! Madonna has always created different ways of expressing herself while poking the society at the same time.
People mistake their personal taste with reality. For those who disagree with the fact that Madonna is far superior to Michael Jackson, argue this:
Rock With You, Beat it, Thriller, Billie Jean, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Remember the Time, Black or White, You Rock My World… they are all great, but no one can deny they all sound the same (and these are songs from 1979 to 2001). In comparison, Madonna’s delivered Lucky Star, Into the Groove, Papa Don’t Preach, La Isla Bonita, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Erotica, Secret, Ray of Light, Music - you can’t get a catalog richer than that.
Madonna’s body of work is endlessly superior to Michael Jackson’s. Let their music speak for itself.
