Gaga vs Bey: more of an albums artist (relative to singles)?
Who is more of an albums artist relative to their singles success? Eg Joanne's lead single Perfect Illusion BOMBED INTO OBLIVION yet her album is selling extremely well and proving the haters wrong. Beyoncé hasn't had a true smash hit in over 5 years yet her album sales are out of this world good. So who's more of an "albums artist"
Beyonce hasn't had a hit since Bush was in office (according to her haters) but can still open with half a million. Interestingly 10+ years ago she was opening with less even though albums sales were much higher and she was scoring plenty of hits.
Tough question, little known fact BEYONCÉ sold a lot more tracks than Artpop and Lemonade has sold more tracks than any female album this year. So Bey is better at selling albums and singles...I'm not sure. It's gotta be close.

Bey sold 1m tracks in the US in 4 days.
I think this crown goes to Gaga, but let's see how much she can sell in the long run before we jump to conclusions.
I don't get it? Formation was a moderate hit + low-key iconic and Drunk in Love was huge. Just as big as Applause. She has had some recent single success that is nothing to scoff at.
But obviously it is Beyoncé. She has sold more albums, and continues to sell more albums.
Dumb question, the numbers are enough to prove the point you want to make. But both (plus Adele and Taylor) are the only ones who can push albums.

Wrong, her last hit was Telephone and Obama was President then.
It was a SMASH, it was #2 on Billboard, it was blocked by Dark Horse which was a Katy Perry monster sized hit, you couldn't escape that. DIL was everywhere.
Bey for now. Glastonbury + Super Bowl did miracles for her. Before the surprise releases, 4 only debuted with 310k with a disastrous lead single, which was good but not amazing for 2011 standards.
Now GaGa will debut with 199k with an even more disastrous lead single, not AMAZING #s, but one of the highest female debuts of the year regardless.
We'll see what Super Bowl + Glastonbury will do for Gaga's future albums
