'21' earns 23rd week at #1 in UK; equals Bob Dylan
'21' earns 22nd week at #1 in UK; overtakes The Beatles 4/15

Adele is back on top today, as her record-smashing 2011 album 21 returns to the summit of the Official Albums Chart. Though up-and-coming US rockers Alabama Shakes had taken a surprise early lead in Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, Adele has since nudged back up to reclaim the top spot in 21’s 64th week on chart.
In doing so the Tottenham-born phenomenon overtakes the career records of music legends David Bowie and Dire Straits in the number of career weeks spent at Number 1 in the UK’s Official Albums Chart. Adele currently enjoys a tally of 23 weeks, that includes the one week at Number 1 of her debut album, 19, plus 22 weeks for her current album. Bowie and Dire Straits each hold a joint 22 weeks.
If that’s not enough, 21 also leapfrogs classic albums by The Beatles as 21 spends its 22nd week at the top today, which is now one week more than both A Hard Day’s Night and With The Beatles achieved, both of which spent 21 weeks apiece at Number 1.
This news comes after a recent run of broken records by the London singer/songwriter, OfficialCharts.com recently confirmed that 21 is now the sixth biggest selling album of all time in the UK, having overtaken Michael Jackson’s Bad, Pink Floyd’s 1973 epic Dark Side Of The Moon and Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms, all in a matter of weeks.

Record beaker Adele denies Jason Mraz his first UK Number 1
Quote:
Adele’s mega-selling 2011 second album, 21, has returned to the top of the Official Albums Chart, denying early leader Jason Mraz his first UK Number 1.
In Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, US singer / songwriter Mraz’s fourth studio album, Love Is A Four Letter Word, was in pole-position with a comfortable lead of nearly 2,000 copies. However, moving into the weekend, Adele shot ahead and has snatched the Number 1 spot from Mraz by just 44 copies.
In doing so, Adele has now amassed an impressive 24 career weeks at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart (23 weeks for her current album and one week for her debut release, 19) beating the chart record of US rapper Eminem who has spent 23 career weeks at Number 1. To add insult to injury, Eminem achieved his total across six albums, Adele has surpassed it with just two.
Adele has now equalled the chart record of US folk hero Bob Dylan, who has also spent 24 career weeks at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart. However, the Tottenham-born star still has a long way to go beat The Beatles who amassed a staggering 174 weeks at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with 15 separate albums.

Adele has equaled Elvis Presley on the OCC.
The longest number one by a male solo artist was Elvis Presley with G.I. Blues which stayed at the top for 22 weeks (his Blue Hawaii album was also the longest consecutive number one album for a male artist with 17 weeks). Adele's album 21 has the most weeks at number one by a female solo artist with 22 weeks, 11 of which were consecutive (which is also a record for a female artist).
