The Best Female Videos
Based on an interesting discussion from 2015's March Madness hosted by supaspaz: It's no secret that the MTV Video Music Awards just aren't what they used to be. Take a look at any of the shows from this decade and the resulting ratings will make you wonder what happened. Sure, the VMAs are an absolute fixture in pop music, and have birthed some of the most iconic and influential moments in music history. But they were also, once upon a time, about the videos.
Over the past decade, the main focus of the show has shifted—away from the quality of the videos themselves to the quantity of what's "hot" or "popular." As a result, you've had some terrible snubs, a problem that has become particularly acute in the past few years. That is some thing we hope to correct with this countdown.
Phase One:
Nominations phase, a preliminary look into what you all consider among the best female videos of 2010-15. Emphasis is placed on quality, meaning that we want you to expand your horizons beyond your faves, and help support neglected artists or groups. Please use the thread as a space to post For Your Considerations and discuss artists you feel need help. Send up to 15 Videos through PM to me.
Phase Two:
A panel phase. In order to tighten the focus, we've put together a selected panel who will analyze the nominations and narrow it down into a formidable shortlist aiming for fair representation regardless of genre/artist/popularity and seeking the best of the best. If you'd like to be a member of this panel, please let me know. I don't want people to be dissuaded from participating because they feel a panel is too exclusive.
Phase Three:
After compiling the shortlist, my cohost supaspaz and I will present it, and everyone (even if you didn't submit a nomination ballot) will get the chance to vote for a Top 10. Once finished, we will begin posting the results to determine the Best Female Video of this Decade so far.
