If the Control singles were certified before 1989, the Gold certification should stand for 1 million shipments.
Also, you should check the dates on the album certifications in terms of adding on the Soundscan numbers - for example, Madonna's Like a Virgin was certified Diamond in 1998, so obviously you wouldn't add all the Soundscan sales to that as the Soundscan era launched years before that.
Just a couple of things to look out for.

Love Janet but these numbers are insanely inflated....
Her best selling album, janet., has done 14 million max.

The "Control" singles were all certified around the time "Miss You Much" came out in 1989. But, the estimate for all the singles is enough to platinum. I'll post the estimated figures later on today.
And from what I've gathered, "Control" should be 7x platinum because it outsold "True Blue" in '86 and '87, and TB is certified 7x platinum. I added the Soundscan figures separately because "Control" had reached 5x platinum well before the inception of SS.

Control could have outsold True Blue in '86/'87, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should be certified 7x Platinum, as True Blue was certified 7x Platinum in 1995. Meanwhile, Control was certified 5x Platinum in 1989. You see what I mean about the dates? Albums are often updated with certifications years after release. The fact that one album outsold another at release does not mean for certain that it has outsold another album in the long-term.
Janet doesn't seem to have too big a problem with that though. The last certifications for Control and Rhythm Nation were in 1989 and 1992 respectively, so adding the Soundscan sales to those certifications would be more accurate than omitting them. Whereas if I did the same for The Immaculate Collection (released in 1990 and certified Diamond in 2001) it would clearly be wrong.
I'm just trying to help, for the sake of accuracy.

RIAA listed years ago that janet. sold over 18.5 million worldwide.
