HP: Stop Listening To 'Fancy' And Start Listening To Charli
Stop Listening To 'Fancy' And Start Listening To Charli XCX
Quote:
Let's talk about the terrible reality of "Fancy": a minstrel show that is approximately as authentic as a knock-off Coach bag. Azalea herself is basically a master class in appropriation and the enduring profitability of picking and choosing from other cultures. But there are plenty of thinkpieceson the subject, should you need more information about that.
Anyway, the entire reason you are still even listening to this song is because of its super catchy hook. Really, just stop it right now. Don't even try to pretend it's about the rap. It's about that sugary, get-stuck-in-your-head refrain. You know "I'm so fanceeeee"? That's what you sing along to. It's about time you were formally introduced to the lady responsible for all of that catchiness: Charlotte Aitchison aka Charli XCX.
Maybe you saw her name pop up on that knock-off "Clueless" music video. If her voice sounds familiar, it's because she's also largely responsible for the addictiveness of Icona Pop's "I Love It." Yeah, that was her! Her voice has been stuck in our collective head for going on two solid years now, and she doesn't even get to be a household name? Not very fancy, you guys.
Charli has a unique voice and has great writing skills. She was overshadowed during the I Love It era, some radio stations didn't even wrote her name (as feat. Charli XCX) when the song was smashing hard. But things are changing now and i'm happy for her, she deserves to smash solo! Boom Clap is doing really well considering it had no promo and if she plays her cards right she has a chance to smash and make it big with her next album.
The reason I'm listening to "Fancy" nonstop is for Iggy's second verse. Iggy is also the reason I listen to "Problem" so it sounds like this bitter writer needs to get over themselves.
(Before anyone gets mad at me, I do own True Romance and I jam to it all the time so I'm in no way anti-Charli, I just don't get the hate for Iggy.)

I hope her new album isn't as mainstream as Boom Clap though, and retains the slayage that True Romance brought upon us.
I don't know a single person that can rap any of Fancy, but nearly everybody I know knows that hook. I've been saying this since day one, Leave It is a good track, but never would've been a hit. The song's success is purely Charli's.

You're an outlier, most people only listen for Charli.
