This song, with some help from a certain event that doesn’t need to be mentioned, became an anthem in America. You Belong With Me proves that there is nothing wrong with being a little cheesy. If any other of the big teen singers sang this I probably would have called it basic and moved on but god damn, Taylor kills this song. Over You beat this? Back to December beat this? That Carrie song about Jesus beat this? Ya’ll are wrong. Dead wrong.

After the first 10 or so rates were in, this song was sitting pretty at #1 with a 9.6 average. I thought for sure that this would hold its spot and be the #1 of the rate in the end. Anyways, everyone knows that this was the song that launched Taylor into superstardom. It’s the best-selling song in this rate and the only one to truly have success on a worldwide scale. The song itself is really fun and infectious, the chorus is everything. Honestly, if someone who has heard the song told me that they never even mumbled/sang the lyrics when the chorus came on, I wouldn’t believe them. Also, let’s get into that bridge. What kind of momentum? THAT’S how you leave the listeners at the edge of their seats before bringing the entire house down with the grand finale. I was honestly shocked that it didn’t go top 5.

Funny thing about this song is that I had it in my top 10 a couple weeks ago. I honestly don’t know how to explain it. I’d like to say I was drunk, or high, or held at gunpoint, but I honestly think I really just dug the song for that time period for some reason. Listening to it now, it probably wouldn’t even crack my top 20. It’s still a pretty song, but I can’t help but feel that it never goes anywhere. It’s pretty weak lyrically for anyone’s standards, let alone Miranda’s. There are times when I love simplicity in a song, but this sure as hell isn’t one of them. Sidetrack for second, I think the reason that I loved the song so much was because it was fresh on my mind after that song Garbage Chute was released and comparing any song to that gives it an immediate boost.

I had no idea that this song was so loved. I thought Top 15, MAX, but Top 5, really? The song itself is beautifully written, I was trying to find a single line to put in here to show this but it’s pretty much impossible to find just one. Actually, found it. “I'm so glad you made time to see me. How's life? Tell me, how's your family? I haven't seen them in a while.” I don’t know why but I love that part so freakin much, I literally get chills when I hear it. I also love that Taylor went for a more understated approach to the song rather than littering it with higher notes. It really adds to the whole melancholy feel of the song. I’m not too mad that this song made it this far, but now that we’re in the top 5, it really was time for it to go.

This song was actually the song to dethrone Love Story at the #1 spot, which it then dominated for most of the rate. Why? I honestly have no idea. THEN when all the scores were in it was #3, and I wasn’t about to let that happen so my 7 booted this down to #4. Thank me later. Anyways, serving as Carrie’s real debut single, Jesus Take the Wheel marked the true beginning of Carrie’s career. Frankly the only part of the song I use is the first verse. If the rest of the song was the same quality as the first verse I would slap down a 10 on this song and move on. Instead, the decent chorus and bland second verse bring it down to just an “okay” song. The fact that this song was almost #1, let alone top 3, sickens me. Thank god Carrie didn’t let Jesus take the wheel of her career and moved on to far better things than this.
