Disney should stop with these types of things. I didn't really like Prince of Persia.

Battleship is not being marketed as "come see Taylor Kitsch kick some maritime alien ass!". People still don't even really know who the guy is. As far as genre goes, one is a science fiction/fantasy romance, which has never really done well outside of Avatar and Star Wars. The other is a typical summer popcorn flick. The fact that looks it just a lot like Transformers (both are from Hasbro) should only help it out at the box office. Neither movies have much in common really.

While that's true, it seems as if the movie was thrown right into production after Avatar blew up. Disney should've just kept developing it.

John Carter went into production in November of 2009, a month before Avatar was released. (Though principal photography began 2 months later in January.)
