Maybe it's their normal singing but the microphones are too loud?
Also, I really don't think it was that bad at AI. Yes, they were loud, but people wanna hear an impressive chorus. Usually you get a way more impressive chorus when there are many singers, in this case background singers, singing together.
You can hear Demi less, I know. But for those who aren't die-hard Demi stans this is more impressive
I know it's hard to understand maybe, but it's true. It gives a better feeling to a chorus this way.
