bruno mars is different even his love songs are different from others and what differentiates bruno is his voice it's very unique he even broke some records with his first song as a solo artist just the way you are was number 1 for 20 weeks on Adult Contemporary so he's doing a very good job but the problem is with the media it's obsessed with female singers taking all the puzz and most of them don't sell that much with the exception of 3 being famous doesn't always mean you're successful and a big seller
It's true that this is a horrible time for solo male pop artists who stand out. And it's not like they're flopping... there just aren't any. Adam Lambert has the potential but his material blends in with the rest.
For good male pop stars you have to go to foreign countries
It's a shame because I know tons of male rock singers that can smoke majority of the pop girls on the radio.
Unfortunately, male rock isn't popular because rock in general isn't popular anymore.
The only female rock that is somewhat popular are bands that are borderline pop. Not even Evanescence's singles have been doing well outside of rock radio and rock charts. And they used to be huge
None of them are interesting enough. Bruno Mars is mildly endearing, but that's about it. Justin was interesting but he's out of the scene now. Half of the population abhors Chris Brown. LMFAO are as sexless as a duo singing about penises can get, so no one considers them.
This is something interesting and kind of disburbing. I have no problem with women becoming pop/rock stars, but it seems like more and more of the top selling music these days is dominated by females. I know male stars exist, but frankly, most of them are boring, examples being Jason Defulo, B.O.B, Jay Sean, and even generic rap stars like Tyga and Big Sean.
I come off biased perhaps because I'm into aggressive hard rock and pop music with a pounding beat. But when I turn on the radio, all I hear anymore is poppy songs with safe vocals and electro-pop breakdowns. Is there any mainstream appeal for masculine music anymore, or is rock music in general being slowly phased out? It seems like nobody wants to hear rock anymore, even the kind that incorporates electro-pop elements into it, which I find kind of cool.
We need another male star like Marilyn Manson. Not as demonic, but a guy who can push boundries and not confine himself to traditional male gender roles. He was practically the Lady GaGa of rock during the late 90's and early 00's, and we need another dude like that again.
I think what's making most male stars boring these days is that a majority of them use autotune, they all wear plain clothes, suits and ties, and frankly, most in the pop genre sing generic love songs, like Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber. There's nothing interesting or controversial about them, and their music isn't really exciting, although I do like Bruno's album.
That's just my two cents.
This is not intended to be an attack against any faves or current mainstream music in general, so keep it nice. Please post your opinions below.
I agree with you. I think actually tho Male Pop Artists who did push the boundaries weren't promoted like they should have been by radio stations.. Cee Lo Green is one of those cases, even tho he is considered R&B, alot of his songs I think would do well on Pop, if Radio actually played them.. Also if JT came back in the game, I'm sure he'd change up Pop Music for males for sure. He does have the talent to do it, but the question is will he?
The last male pop-star that was equivalent to the pop girls in terms of relevancy and success was probably Justin Timberlake. He was nearing the top of the pop music hierarchy. Come to think of it, nowadays there isn't really any male artists that are just as prominent in pop culture. You get your typical dance-pop/R&B hybrid hits from Jason and Taio, but there isn't any male artists right now that can do it all. Not to discredit Bieber, but his following consists of mostly teenage girls. There are no guys right no that have the support of the whole public, male or female of all ages.
I'm going to be honest here. I hate JB as a person (he just seems too cocky to me, but idk..) but in honestly (now this is a big secret that none of my friends or anybody on here knows about) he does have a good voice, and has produced some good songs. Somebody To Love f/ Usher is so far my fav from him.. But JT I think has had the biggest success for a Pop Artist, but if you count Timbaland, then maybe they tie, but JT for sure is the #1 Pop Artist IMO..
I don't know why, but I really prefer the male vocals over the female vocals
Calvin Harris & Example
Some male vocals I'm in LOVE with, but its true for female vocals too.. There are alot of girls that can't sing out in the music world but just go off of AutoTune and get Top 10's and such, or have like ****ty lyrics and such.. Adele and Gaga both have great voices, no doubt they can sing live. Justin Timberlake and Usher both have great voices, no doubt they can sing live too.. Alot of artist can't sing live now-a-days tho..
