thats not because it was bad, it's because people on pop music forums always only like covers with a pretty face and a cute pink font. for example find those threads where they post those ugly fan made covers and think they are miles better than original ones. or find the thread for the fame monster cover. people hated it back them ("ewww she's so not pretty" ) but now everyone would agree that it's amazing and in a way iconic
trust me, the born this way album cover will be remembered in decades from now and will be considered one of the best album covers ever
