And Katy is hardly at the top of her game, check out that lovely TOTGA performance on X Factor. The song didn't even make Top 15 on iTunes in that country after that huge promo. (UK)
Rihanna is a big star, but she's been around for years. She's the present, not the future.

She is not anymore. RIHANNA is the biggest popstar in the world right now

Uh, yes she did. And are we then going to forget about Ireland, how about New Zealand?
As to this thread, I knew it's fate the moment I saw the thread title. A bunch of stans putting down Rihanna and Katy because of something there fave does better in, typical.

Not true.
Rihanna's attempt at a mature era with Rated R completely underperformed, and she was even riding off the wave of her Chris Brown controversy. The general public isn't here for a 'serious' Rihanna.

This board is so dense. I've seen this thrown around about Adele, and now it's being thrown around about Rihanna and Katy. This same thing could be said about Gaga. I'd laugh if all three outlast Gaga.

Allow me to repeat myself, the future of pop showed up in 2008 with a sound and image that changed the way pop stars do things these days.
You guys are confusing future with current success. Sure, none of the current girls are going anywhere, but only a select couple will remain while everyone else is forgotten. Who's going to be forgotten, you ask. Well, the ones who rely solely on their labels and producers to create music solely to cater to the public, aka, the people who move on ever so easily.

Hun, I hope you know that a song can be bought ten times in NZ and Ireland and make it into the top ten. Those countries are so tiny.

Big difference between the two though, Rihanna's albums often praised by critics, Katy's are not.

Born This Way? "Cause God makes no mistakes".
You and I? Again, I must have missed the constant religious references to make the song a big hit.

Judas went Top 10
Who said anything about lyrics? They said religious references. The Alejandro has A LOT of religious references... You know, eating rosary beads?
Born This Way video had religious references and I'm pretty sure she did some bible quote passage **** at the beginning of the video.
You And I references religion at least once in both the lyrics and the video.
Yeah, I'd think it's safe to say Gaga does the whole "religious profanity" thing A LOT. I don't know why one would be so delusional to argue with that.

Actually, by the standards of the era before and afterwords that was underperforming BUT that is only because people have such high-standards for Rihanna. She can sell albums and singles so people expect her to. Not everyone expects that from their fave even when it is their biggest album to date and has huge singles.

Well, then, don't make false statements. I don't care if they are smaller countries, you make it out to seem the performance did nothing, when in fact it did. Already in Top 100 in the US, with no promo. Get out with your Gaga rants, look at the thread title, hun.

True, it underperformed. But Rihanna still managed to get 3 Top 10 hits, 1 of those going to #1. The album sold about 3 million (?) worldwide. If anyone else "underperformed", I don't think many of them would be able to still be as successful as Rated R was.

Yeah, I could totally see it happen. Just the thought of Katy and Rihanna dictating what happens in pop music is scary. I already don't like pop music much; imagine a future landscape full of Katys and Rihannas

I said nothing about the performance. I said that a small amount of people can buy the song and it'll shoot up. A hundred people buying the song = fail.
No, Gaga fans have the right to bring Gaga up in this thread because of the title. Katy and Rihanna have never been referred to as the "future of pop," but Gaga has.

And Gaga has three massively successful albums, so what you said makes no sense.
