This is all too much! I tried reading all of this thread first before commenting but couldn't make it through.
All artists go through different phases of their careers. That's why they're called Eras. If you listen to Madonna's "Erotica" or "Ray of Light" albums, they are dramatically different from her "Bedtime Stories" or "Hard Candy" albums where she worked with more commercial producers. She's doing whatever she feels like doing. You all are doing too much for Rated R. The more you bitch and moan about wanting her to do stuff like that again, the less she will be likely to do it. The last thing they want is to put her in a box. Why can't you all just be fans and support whatever she's doing. It's obviously working. What makes a true artist is EXPRESSION. If what she wants to express is fun, euphoria, and her love of life right now, then the music is definitely paying tribute to that and she is hitting her mark exactly!
And as a side note to all the people complaining about WFL, it's way different than anything on LOUD (Obviously some of you don't know what pure house music sounds like), and though there aren't that many lyrics, they're actually more mature and very beautiful lyrics as compared to most on LOUD. Many critics, as well as myself, have taken WFL as a very interesting and compelling direction to take the new album, and I'm expecting it to be dance, yes (but dance is something she's always done, so I don't get the complaining), but at the same time I'm assuming it may be a little more mature in it's lyrical content as well as song structures, melodies, etc.
I will say I would have preferred the album title be "Talk That" instead of "Talk That Talk", but I wasn't a fan of "LOUD" or "Rated R" either and now after hearing the albums they make total sense.
Obviously the song is smashing already, so just be excited for her!!

I don't care if her songs are deep, but I don't want a whole album like WFL.

It set her apart from her contemporaries and all the songs she recorded sounded as if they had been especially composed for her. Lyrically, (especially on Rated R) she was a bit more profound than your usual pop artists.
However, all artists evolve and experiment with new sounds. Rihanna is young, so it makes sense that she wanted to make a party record. Also, after the underperformance of Rated R, she was most likely pushed by her record label to make a safer record. When Rihanna is a bit more established as an artist, and her record sales don't depend as much on her first single, I'm sure she'll record her own "4" and give her fans a "fan record".
Until then start getting used to Calvin Harris and David Guetta... cause she's going to sound like this for a while.
|
Rated R was her own "4" actually. She conceived the album from concept to finished product. She knew what she wanted it to sound like and she executed it. I'm very sure Def. Jam wasn't to thrilled.

For me I don't necessarily want her to do another Rated R but I do want her to take some time and conceive the concept of the album and take sometime to write some lyrics because I really think there might be a really brilliant artist in there somewhere. Especially since she showed she can put together a really great product with Rated R. Maybe it didn't sell that well but it was from her and it was a really great album. I would rather her put things together from her own vision then to just pick songs, sing them and release an album. I'm not advocating she take long breaks or no breaks but I'm advocating she makes music she believes in and conceived. At the end of the day that's EXPRESSION!

Beyonce was 23 when DIL came out,do your homework first. She wrote DIL (the song )herself when she was 19.
Rated R was her "4" ? no wonder why G4L,Rockstar,Te amo,Rude boy ..were all some deep stuff. And yeah how Cold case love wasnt written and given to her by JT, RR by neyo .......you are right, some deep and timeless songs.

And Countdown, Party, Run the World and End of Time are all so deep too.
The point is, the majority of both of those albums were meaningful, and they both had concepts, and the artists contributed a lot to them, and picked the direction.

EXACTLY. I actually love both albums and I think 4 is her most meaningful and involved album and she was 29!

The production off RR was definely better than GGGB.Rihanna shows some potential with this album but she still not there. Many of you rihanna stans hate on "Rockstar" but it's in my opinion the song with the best production on that album.
Everything about Rated R was basic but compared to the bubble pop songs from GGGB;it was great.l really want rihanna to step her game up musically but my opinion is irrelevant cause l am not a stan. You guys should be asking her to give you quality music now that the hottest producers in the game are around her, cause nothing is forever.
1+1 alone ***** on rihanna discography.

Very well said. It's apparent that she's further exploring dance music. I am soooo excited to see what she comes up with. And the haters are more excited than I am.

The beat sounds like a watered down version of a david guetta song and the lyrics aren't the best either.
|
Tell me you're not comparing a Guetta's song with Calvin Harris' work
TBH, I prefer the "new" Rihanna

Music wise, artists should NEVER be the same on albums, rihanna is just trying new stuff, chill out, that's good!
as a person and the way she's being acting on stage lately, i do have to say that i'm not at all amused, i really never looked at her as a bad girl but being drunk twice in a week while performing is not a good example. i hope she fixes her **** real quick.
other than that i'm very interested in talk that talk, loud was a decent album

I agree. It could be completely different.
