Oh and for the record...can I remind you that The Fame sold 5.7m in 2009 and The Fame monster sold 5.8m in 2010....and I can see BTW going past 6m this year (in a mere 6 months) with all the international promo she has coming up (lots in the UK, Germany, the india trip etc). It's her highest and fastest selling album yet. What do you want from her? Would 10m in 3 months have been enough? 20m in 6 months? With The Fame monster sales aswell this is by far her fastest ]selling album year yet...she should do 7-8m albums by the end of the year.

Just saw this post.
Um. Well, I'm going to be frank with you and tell you that I love all the singles (except You and I, which I only like, not love).
As I've stated before, her next single choice and everything concerning it is going to be the most pivotal factor for the era since the release of Judas. I hope that it'll be much more positive than Judas was. If not, I still love the album and Gaga.
I'll still be posting here, and I'll still be posting when she has her next album.
I thought this gif was cute so I'm posting it.

Amaru and Ra2 why did you not respond to the second part of my post which mentioned that gaga is selling better than ever albums wise?
I'm not dellusional...this is entirely factual

You care what other stanbases think?
I browse their threads sometimes and see them rationalize their fave's undeniable failures, or viciously attack people who point out the obvious, and I am EMBARRASSED for them.

This is GaGa's sophomore era (according to her TFM was only an extension of TF), and in being so it should have been her best selling era. Other sophomore eras include Britney's OIDIA, NSYNC's NSA, etc. These eras are usually much more commercially successful than the eras that preceded them (Britney's BOMT, and NSYNC - *NSYNC). It would be unfair to compare BTW's sales to those of OIDIA due to obvious market differences, but it would make sense to compare BTW's sales relative to those of TF/TFM (10 Million +) , just as one could compare OIDIA sales to those of BOMT.
There is no reason for why GaGa should have had such relative lackluster sales this era when she was in every magazine cover, every continent, every award show. She was Forbes #1 most powerful celebrity in 2011 and topped mosts lists in the beginning the year
Now before you little monsters get your paws up and telling me that she's sold "4Million WW, what else do you want!?, 1 Million opening week!", it should be clear to everyone that in determining the relative succes of the BTW era, her sales should not be compared to how her counterparts are doing (Katy with TD and Rihanna with Loud), but only to the succes of her previous album (TF/TFM). The reasoning behind this is that if we were to compare GaGa's sales to those of Rihanna and Katy, then it would only be logical to compare them to the sales of Adele.
BTW is struggling to reach 2 Million domestically and this is during a time where her FOURTH single is already slowing down. GaGa has failed to meet projections and this could be due to poor single choices, too radical a shift in sound, or perhaps even her overexposure (unlikely).
In the end BTW will probably end the year as the #2 best selling album WW so Interscope has probably few complaints, if any.... but, the discrepancy between the sales of BTW and TF/TFM can only be attributed to the poor choices GaGa and her team have made this era.
|
As far as I know, "Oops..." sold sightly less than "BOMT" both in the US and WW, so your point is wrong + NSA didn't outsell *NSYNC by a large amount. You also have to considerate neither BOMT nor NSYNC was re-released, so, while it's fair to compare BOMT and OIDIA sales, it's unfair to compare TF(M) sales with BTW as long as it doesn't get a re-release.
Then, even if TF(M) is technically a re-release, it was felt from both public and fans as her sophomore album, since it was released ~1,5 years after her debut and spawned three singles and a completely different world tour; TF(M) sales (2nd album) didn't fail to match TF sales. BTW is largely considered her third studio and her 2nd LP.
+ I agree when people talk about "not matching expectations" when they talk about singles sales, which are good but not comparable to the past, but album sales, which are more and more important, are awesome to me. This album hasn't still come through an holiday season and has already sold, at least, 4.5M; she has big winter promo planned (partially revealed), at least two more singles and a tour which has it all to smash and give the album another boost.
TF(M) sold ~15M with re-release and three years of sales, BTW is obviously not stopping at least until 6M sold, which would make a very good follow-up.

Well, they highly think of Gaga when success comes to mind (especially if it outdoes their fave ). So I'm just giving them the value of reciprocity.

Yea, I just don't get why we're called the most delusional's lol...
slimane12I agree with most of your points, hints why I don't quote or comment on them. The joke I said about you earlier was just that... a joke. You do have the tendency of being a bit rude and coming off too strong(to me, at least).
I don't see how she could release anymore crap tho, unless she releases Hair or any of the bonus tracks. If she skips those we might be headed in a good direction!!!! in terms of single releases.

Not stopping until at least 6m sold? She'll do over that easy by the end of THIS YEAR. Touring really helps sell albums in international markets.

You're rather catty.
However, if you must know, considering the fact that I don't know the rate in which her previous albums sold considering the fact that I didn't study it this closely until the single release of Born This Way, I'm unable to talk about the subject matter intelligibly.
What do I want from her album sales?
I've already discussed this with another poster and it resulted in a fight that well, should not have been a fight.
The only thing I want from Gaga's album sales is consistency. It's less about the number of total copies sold and more about the rate in which copies are being sold week by week.
I would have been jolly had she sold 400 first week in the us, 340 second week, 280 third week, and slowing down to about 100k a week.
Instead we went from 1.1 million week one to 80% less than that and then we got a continuous drop to where we were lucky to get 8-13k per week.
Maybe 100K per week is asking a bit too much considering the sales period, but I'm just saying numbers on the top of my head for the sake of explaining to you that I would prefer to see consistency over the erratic nature of her chart performance so far.

This is a discussion form...relentless negativity isn't discussion. Personally I think You and I is her second best video after Bad romance, TEOG is one of the best songs she has ever written and I love how daring and interesting BTW as an album is...it's really brave and has a lot of substance...it's a pretty special and very ambitious album for a popstar of gaga's fame to put out and I defo think she pulled it off.

Let's not confuse negativity with objectivity. I believe as fans we owe it to GaGa to be objectively critical. Mindless praise for this album is not a discussion--it's a circle jerk.
That said, I agree with you about TEOG, and I enjoy most of this album. I believe Hair is a fantastic song and despite some fillers, I believe GaGa delivered a very solid album. I am only disappointed in the presentation of her work and the lack of focus in the delivery of her ideas. To me, it seems that this era she seems to be struggling with having too many ideas, and too people in her party overindulging these ideas.

She'll definitely hit 6 million if she releases Marry The Night.
Also, yes, we still have the tour to come.
I would like to think that Gaga and her team has saved the best singles for when the tour comes around in hopes that y'know they won't need as much promo boosts (televised) to keep them afloat.
Here's to hoping it gets better.
If not, well, it's still my favorite album of Gaga's.

If you're talking to me, I'm not delusional. TF is definitely more comercially successful than the BTW era has been until now. The singles have been rushed. Gaga and her team mismanaged the Judas era and they are in part responsible for its unpopularity in the US and Europe. The TEOG video is the worst in Gaga's career.
What I was saying is that if fans and artists really prefer comercial success before a good and solid album, well the music industry will suffer. Which album received better professional critics TF or BTW? So, I would prefer that Gaga just fades away in terms of comercial success giving us albums like BTW than her pulling another album like TF with most of the songs being simple fillers just to be comercially successful. But this seems like an unpopular opinion here...

Yeah but you have nothing to compare her sales too Ra2...nothing at all. A pop artist hasn't sold so much in one week in the modern download era AT ALL...so we have no idea what the trajectory for an album like this should be. Maybe if another female pop artist has a similar first week in the next years we will have something to compare this to...but right now we don't. Again you haven't addressed that this year is going to be her highest selling album year yet...she's going to have sold more of BTW ww in 6 months than she did in both The Fame
She sold 40k ish for most of The Fame monster (and that was with "shiny new" syndrome too) so how would she sell 100k weekly? Your expectations are completely out of step with anything she could have ever achieved.
Also since when has BTW ever sold as low as 8-13k this era? That's pure fantasy.
Oh and Oops! sold 15m compared to Baby's 23m. Stripped sold 10m to Christina Aguilera's 16...I could go on.

"Going less hard" =/= Remaking The Fame
If Gaga shows us one thing in her career is that she moves forward.
