Like I said she's the current it girl and Avril released right before the Japanese disasters which massively affected her album sales and she's still selling well.
Avril didn't release in the 90's and at least Avrils numbers are more consistent. Also she's never released a compilation album which are always massive in Japan but I will admit Mariah in the 90's was more popular than Avril but unfortunately she's been on a downward spiral since daydream with the exception of #1's but thats because it's a compilation album.
