Billboard Hot 100 Singles (August 10-17, 2011)

Quote:
With Adele's "21" back at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (76,000; down 8% according to Nielsen SoundScan), the British songstress' set collects its 12th week atop the list. It's the most weeks at No. 1 for an album since Santana's "Supernatural" also racked a dozen leading frames in late 1999 and early 2000.
"21" hasn't been absent from the top three rungs on the list since it debuted at No. 1 -- 24 weeks ago. It's to-date sale rise to 2.9 million this week -- still by far the year's top selling album.
Will "21" rack a 13th frame at No. 1 next week? Most likely not, as Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" is a sure bet for a big bow in the penthouse with over 500,000 copies sold.
Last week's No. 1, Eric Church's surprise topper "Chief," slips to No. 2 with 53,000 (down 63%). Fellow country singer Trace Adkins arrives at No. 3 with "Proud to Be Here" (47,000) -- his fourth top 10. His last studio set, 2010's "Cowboy's Back in Town," debuted and peaked at No. 5 off a 50,000 start.
Mat Kearney nabs a new chart high and best sales week ever as "Young Love" launches at No. 4 with 44,000. His last one, "City of Black & White," bowed at No. 13 with 26,000.
The soundtrack to the Nickelodeon TV series "Victorious" debuts at No. 5 (41,000) while the various artists R&B compilation "Slow Grind" jumps in at No. 9 with 32,000.
The latter set, released on Razor & Tie, benefits from handsome sales via direct-response TV ads and weeks of pre-orders. The label is also home to the "Kidz Bop" series as well as the compilations "Monster Ballads," "Pulse," "Fired Up!" and "The Edge," among others. "The Edge" also posted "Grind"-like numbers when it started at No. 4 in 2010 with 53,000.
Speaking of "Kidz Bop," volume 20 of the series slips 6-7 this week with 36,000 (down 5%). This and "Grind" give Razor & Tie two concurrent top 10 albums for the first time in history.
Beyonce's "4" falls 5-8 (34,000; down 16%) and Blake Shelton's "Red River Blue" slides 8-10 (26,000; down 17%).
Falling out of the top 10 this week is the late Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black," which descends 7-16 with 20,000 (down 48%). Her "Frank" set also slides 33-58 (8,000; down 36%).
Over on the Digital Songs chart, LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" is still No. 1, selling 185,000 (down 8%) and Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters" (featuring Bruno Mars) is steady at No. 2 (164,000; down less than 1%). Making a big move is Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" (featuring Christina Aguilera), which dances 17-3 with 159,000 (up 124%). The band performed the song on both "America's Got Talent" and the "Today" show last week.
Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" holds at No. 4 (140,000; down 3%), Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" falls 3-5 (136,000; down 10%) and Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" runs 13-6 with 134,000 (up 52%). Lil Wayne's "How to Love" moves 6-7 (125,000; down 5%), Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight Tonight" tumbles 5-8 (123,000; down 8%) and Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" goes 7-9 (109,000; down 6%). Rounding out the top 10 is Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," slipping 8-10 with 105,000 (down 8%).
Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Aug. 7) totaled 5.67 million units, down 2% compared to the sum last week (5.76 million) and up 8% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (5.26 million). Year to date album sales stand at 183.47 million, up 2% compared to the same total at this point last year (180.18 million). It is the eleventh week in a row where year-to-date album volume is greater than the same time in the prior year.
Digital track sales this past week totaled 23.18 million downloads, down 1% compared to last week (23.33 million) and up 12% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (20.72 million). Year to date track sales are at 777.53 million, up 11% compared to the same total at this point last year (701.98 million).
Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Eminem's "Recovery" went back to No. 1 (133,000; down 13%) while the previous week's leader, Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs," fell to No. 2 with 52,000 (down 66%). The tally's highest debut was the "Camp Rock 2" soundtrack, which started at No. 3 with 41,000.
