If Gaga's label controlled everything she did, Gaga could score #1 after #1, but Gaga's not a singles artist, so that's not what she's concerned with. It doesn't matter how many #1 singles Katy has, the truth is she is a singles artists and people don't remember singles artists and/or people who did nothing but played it safe. Katy is a monster when it comes to singles success, but even with 5 #1 singles, there is literally no interest in her album and it's such an anomaly. People love her singles but not enough to buy her albums. I don't get it. She is the perfect popstar, aka, people only care about the songs she puts on the radio.
Are we gonna remember the pretty girl with big boobs or the girl who pissed everyone off and wore a meat dress? I think we know the answer.

Reminds me of the last era. I'm lovin' it.

I agree that Katy hasn't and probably won't ever touch GaGa's cultural impact, but I do not think she will be forgotten just because people aren't so much interested in her album as opposed to her singles. Katy has become one of the biggest pop stars on this generation, and while she plays it safe, she still has been able to break records, singles or otherwise. People typically remember artists for their singles anyway. So, Katy will be fine as far as people remembering her. It's people like Taio Cruz who I fear will be completely forgotten.

That's what I said... Gaga's impact on (pop)culture extends far beyond sales/downloads. SHE will be remembered.

I wonder if she's even going to go to the VMAs. I have a feeling that if she's not performing or winning, she won't even show up. I think she's at the point in her career where they'll tell her beforehand if she won and she will decide to go or not. Not because she thinks she's too good to go, but because she has an album to promote. I have a feeling MTV will do everything they can to get her to go, though, even so far as to making up some kind of "generation icon" award just to get her to show up
|
She will defintely score some nominations and the 4th single should be released by that time (early august)... so we might get a performance. Either way... she will show up!

"Katy has become one of the biggest pop stars on this generation"
That's simply untrue. I know she's huge, but it's not the kind of huge Britney, Christina, Gaga, or even Rihanna is. The fact is, people love her songs on the radio, but most of the time, the people who listen to her care nothing about her. It's those with large, dedicated fanbases that continue to thrive. Katy has been reliant on Dr. Luke, so it makes you wonder what'll happen when the current pop trend dies. Will she be able to adapt. I don't know, probably not.

I love Hair so much. It's genius in terms of capturing the struggles of adolescent youth.

MTV will do what they can to get her there because she brings in ratings. If Y&I is the next single, I rather her not show up. :P

Katy will not be forgotten any time soon, that's just naive. She may not manage to achieve legendary status, but people even remembered who Paul Abdul was prior to Idol.
But that just goes to show how delusional the people who claim that Gaga will be forgotten, too. She made enough of a global impact in just three years that she could literally disappear tomorrow and people will still know who she was and readily recognize her name 20 years from now.

I need Scheiße for the next single. And I need the video to be directed by Francis Lawrence and only him.

But Katy has become one of the biggest pop stars of this generation. That is true. When you look back at the digital era, I'm sure she will stick out like a thumb. How is she not one of the biggest pop stars of our generation when she is the only one challenging Michael's record and getting other achievements? Of course she isn't as big or "iconic" as GaGa or Britney, but that doesn't change the fact that Katy is one of the biggest pop stars of this era. I don't see how anyone can deny that. Whether she goes down as "legendary" is something totally different. Paula Abdul isn't exactly "legendary," but she was one of the biggest pop stars of her generation.

Yep. Maybe if she'd only struck it big with IKAG and then fell off the map after that, but not after the TD era.

Talent is very overrated when it comes to a popstar's longevity.
Look at Britney vs Christina.

OT- Just ate the best tuna sandwich ever. I used The Challah bread i made 2 days ago, glazed one side of each bread with a mixture of olive oil, tarragon, with a little creamy caesar sauce. Then I put the two slices in the oven to toast. For the Tuna I used Starkist Tuna Creations Sweet and Spicy I added rosemary, a pinch of sea salt, black pepper, and Mayonnaise.
That was absolutely the best Tuna sandwich I ever had.

Talent is very overrated when it comes to any type of star's longevity. How many extremely talented artists have fallen under the radar? Plenty.

True, but with pop stars that's even more the case.
To be a successful pop star, you need nothing but the right connections. Literally, nothing else. Example: Ke$ha.
With acting you need a certain level of talent. It's your face, your performance, you that's on display on a 40-foot screen. With a popstar, in most cases it's not even your voice.
