People buy her album because they have confident that the album will be full of quality tracks. Same goes with GaGa. Do you think the large fanbase will be able to buy 1m+ albums ? Dream on.
The key word was might. I don't think more people now Gaga. But I do think that most people know both of them by now. No one's saying that Madge isn't the Queen of Pop, but you have to be a fool to think that Gaga isn't the main attraction of today's industry. The Queen indeed.
And lets not act as if Madonna hasn't done things to create controversy. Most female pop icons have. But the most important thing is that the meat dress will forever remain iconic

Unfortunately, my generation (90's) doesn't really into Madonna. I don't even know the existent of her until she released new dance album. Also, i get to know more about her via GLEE.
