Rated R has this 'current' sound to it, so I can see why some people would prefer Rated R. The Velvet Rope has this dated sound to it.
Regardless, I'm going with TVR. Lyrically, it obliterates RR. Janet Jackson's creativity was great. I find her lyrics were more diverse too. She was singing about gay rights, break up, abuse, AIDS, sex, and just about everything.
they are both amazing and somehow similar. However i find that TVR is too long and not cohesive, even though some of its songs are better/more artistic than anything on Rated R. Rated R has some weak points (i.e. Photographs) but overall as an album is more cohesive. So i go with Rated R.
I adore both albums but I prefer my album short and sweet (hence voting for Rated R). I would probably chose TVR if they cut out Empty, Anything and Special. It still has two of my favorite Janet songs though (I Get Lonely and Rope Burn).
i dont like this poll both albums are dear to me but TVR has one of my favorite Janet songs of all time on it "velvet rope" (song) so I have to go with TVR
