For the US iTunes chart, it is a rough estimation of how much the song has sold. Of course, it isn't 100 percent accurate, but it gives a pretty good representation. And for the World chart, it is the total of the points that song has from being at a certain position. So, if a song is a number one in multiple countries, it will get points for being number one in those countries.
