I don't think that's right. Apple doesn't have a large stake in how well or how poorly an artist performs because either way they will get their standard 30% cut on everything sold in their store. Apple makes the majority of its money from computers, phones, and electronics anyways. The Beatles might be an exception to that rule though.

That's not true either. Amazon discounts MP3 albums all the time as loss leaders in order to steal business away from iTunes. iTunes could use this tactic too but since they've pretty much monopolized the digital music market, they don't have to.
