The main reason she didn't hit #1 was because Jive never released official singles for her songs. Hence, when she was getting tons of airplay, her songs still didn't go #1 because Jive didn't provide a physical CD to buy.

Did Jive theory fail? NOPE! Britney became one of the best selling album artists with just two albums because of the strategy Jive did. More money was made from albums than singles and that's all that matters to record executives.

with two albums Britney sold over 40 million albums worldwide, half of which came from the United States because of Jive's strategy. So tell me, do you think what they did was smart afterall?

Baby One More Time sold 25,000,000 WW and Oops sold 20 million copies Worldwide along with her other amazing sales for her albums
I'm A Slave 4 U maybe have only peaked at #27 on the Hot 100 but the album opened with 740,000 (it's more than that but I always mix up my numbers for the opening sales of Britney) with Britney.
Me Against The Music may have only peaked at #35 but In The Zone opened with 609,000 copies. Get it? Because of her being able to sell albums, Britney has kept longevity and a built in fanbase.

releasing physical cd's would not have hurted album sales...mariah's album's sold very well back then and her singles were released as physical cds...it didnt affect mariahs album sales...so stop putting that as an excuse.........

Have you ever passed a reading comprehension test? Foxay has stated that Mariah catered than to more than just the pop format, she had other formats to appeal to as well. Back then Britney's target audience was younger and it was pop. Jive's plan worked and guess what Britney is still slaying the charts. Now stop it before I pull out the receipts for Brandy's previous two albums since obviously releasing physical cd-singles hasn't helped her career in the long run.

I agree that the difference on the final album sales may not have been that huge, especially since Britney did very well worldwide (and she released physical singles internationally), the final difference would probably be less than 500,000, but this in money-making surpass what they would make in the singles department (money-wise).

Britney managed to be one of the best album sellers of all time, and this overdo any achievement in the singles area, so I somewhat applaud of JIVE did.

She managed to have hits nonetheless.

Again, you need to really improve on your reading comprehension. I just said in my previous post that Mariah catered to several formats while Britney was pretty much just SOLELY POP. AND with Britney's first three albums her fanbase was a YOUNGER one. Therefore JIVE's plan worked. She has had hits back then, and hit albums because of this plan and she continues to have this success. Just because they weren't number one doesn't mean they were flops. Now if you are such a Britney fan then stop attacking her because that is the vibe I am getting from you. Now please reread this 12 times so it will sink into your brain so I don't have to keep repeating myself. I feel bad for shading Brandy but I felt it would be effective since you aren't getting the point...

And to your edit: Pop Format is ONE format while Mariah appealed to MANY meaning that there were more people to buy her singles and albums...
