EW: Britney Spears to release new single, 'Hold It Against Me,' next week:

Prepare yourselves, Britney Spears fans: She’s about to release a brand-new single called “Hold It Against Me” in just over a week. Sharon Dastur, program director for NYC’s Z100 radio, has heard the new single, and she loves it.
“It’s produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin, and the beat that they give her is really unique compared to other artists — this infectious bass beat beneath the song,” Dastur says in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands tomorrow. “Plus, the hook is just amazing.”
Dastur tells us that “Hold It Against Me” will premiere on Jan. 7, next Friday. It will presumably precede Spears’ seventh studio album, about which little is known aside from a March release date.
Excited yet? Spears doing her thing over an “infectious bass beat” from pop maestros Dr. Luke and Max Martin sounds pretty enticing, no? Let us know if you’re looking forward to hearing “Hold It Against Me.”

That's because Gimme More leaked like a MONTH in advance. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't quite a few tracks leak long before Blackout was released?

It didn't leak a month in advance.  It leaked/premiered August 30th, she did VMAs September 7th, and it was on iTunes September 25th. There was no press release prior to.
"Break the Ice" was the only song to leak really early, then the rest of the tracks leaked as demos in mid-October. Forcing them to move the date up.
Otherwise, no "Gimme More" came out when it was planned to...

Oh. Really? I distinctly remember a bunch of tracks and the label announcing Gimme More would be the lead single. Huh. I could be wrong.  Thanks for the help!

Epic day. I remember i was in the church and i got a text from my friend saying: "New Britney single is out.It's epic." I ran like a crazy back home

no, "gimme more" and "hot as ice" leaked first like a whole month before the single release and the infamous peformance. then half the album and demos leaked right after.

You're exactly right except the Hot As Ice demo (leaked as Cold As Fire) leaked right around when Gimme More was sent to Radio.

Hot As Ice did leak but no Gimme More DID NOT leak! It was sent to radio and the radio rip made it's way around the internet. They DIGITALLY released it around a month after they sent it to radios
But Break The Ice demo was one of the first to leak, it didn't leak til a while after Gimme More came out.

they leaked at the same time. if a britney single leaks, it's getting radio play the day the song leaks. dead.
they don't wait around for official radio releases when it comes to the queen.
