I can't really pinpoint where Christina goes wrong. She just doesn't feel authentic. All the ingredients are right but it's forced. And the subject matter of her last three albums has been totally stagnant. All she talks about is how strong "women" are, and she uses subsersive sexuality as feminist tool, which went out of style around 20 years ago.

Yeah, that's very true. But like you said, when Madonna did it, it worked. But I think that's because Madonna had more fame/success/a huge, dedicated following anyway, so no matter what she did, it was huge. Same here, and nothing will ever really top ROL for me, it will remain one of my all-time favorite albums. The creativity and hard work that went into that album. It's just so epic. I must say, I love every album she's ever made, although I never really got into Hard Candy (besides the singles).
That's EXACTLY how I've always felt about Christina. She never seemed authentic. She seems to change under pressure, whether it's to fit the "standards", or to be what someone else thinks she should be. That's true, too. And she still tries to sell herself as the victim of a broken home. I felt really bad for her at first, when she first talked about it, but I think it's a little inappropriate to consistently mention it in so many interviews after all these years.
