Soccer moms know who Lady GaGa is, octogenarians know who Lady GaGa is, out-of-touch college professors know who Lady GaGa is. Her sound, image, and accomplishments have transcended the realm of pop music. Katy Perry is generally only familiar to people under the age of 30 and the parents of the children/teens that like her music. She just hasn't had the impact Lady GaGa has and there's a distinction between being a celebrity and being a household name.

Well said. I also felt that Katy Perry is continuously being shoved down people's throats, but she's not impacting as huge as say, Spears or Gaga. That's not to say she's unsuccessful - she is. But I question her longevity.
My recluse Dad, my old college professors (recluses too), know who Lady Gaga is. They kinda know Britney Spears and such. I don't think they know Katy Perry.
