Dianna Ross.
Madonna.
MJ.
Cher.
Barbra Streisand.
David Bowie.
The Beatles.
Elvis.
Tina Turner.
They did just fine before the internet. It wasn't that impossible to become a global legend before. If anything it's harder post internet, since everyone is trying to use it as a platform to launch themselves.

Notice at one point or another all these gerls have tried to venture out of music into other fields, but they failed, and failed miserably. Their acting careers failed, clothing lines failed, some are trying to get their perfume line off the ground but it isn't working. Name another female pop star who has #1 movies, #1 albums, #1 singles, #1 perfumes, #1 DVD's, and etc..... until then there is no discussion.
Bey is the only gerl who can do any and everything, and that's exactly why she's the highest paid female artist

Is this post intended to show why Beyonce is a bigger star than others, including Gaga? Hope not because that would be unfortunate

Comparing Gaga to pop stars like Britney and Bey that have been out for 10+ years is so tired, I'm sick of it.
But the fact of the matter is that Lady Gaga rose to MASSIVE levels of fame in a shorter period of time than just about any other artist ever has. IMO she became a household name after the 2009 VMA's, which were in September 2009, only 9 months after Just Dance hit #1. A HOUSEHOLD NAME IN 9 ****ING MONTHS. NONE of your faves did that..not Britney, not Beyonce, not Rihanna, not even Michael.
And to those denying Gaga's popularity/status: Lady Gaga IS fame. When the children of todays generation think of fame, they will think of Lady Gaga. At the VMA's this year she was considered the belle of the ball even when surrounded by huge names like Eminem, Rihanna, Usher, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, etc. She is the star around which the pop universe spins, and Britney and Bey stans need to accept that.

Why all yall even talking or trying to "diss" Beyonce?
Comparing Gaga to Beyonce ? There's no comparison!
Beyonce got her HUGE list of achievements by starting small & working her way up. Being a black woman in this industry I think is tough , so to even be honored w/ an achievement like singing at the 1st black president's Presidential Inauguration is something noone can top , tht is big history right there.
As far as Gaga is concerned her fame comes from controversy, which has no longevity to it. I love Gaga to death but she's getting quick fame tht might die fast. Its not gonna be hard to imitate what Gaga is doing , Ecspecially when everyone is aiming to be a fashion Icon nowadays. Trust me , someone is gonna create a new gaga. Beyonce has been out for nearly 14 yrs & hasnt been duplicated by the least & when Gaga does the same , I'll then compare the two.
I give them both respect because they've both changed the game in a way but, lets not get carried away girls.

Talking about someone's "rise to fame" then asking whether they have surpassed today's popstars is stupid. If we're talking about just debut, then Britney most certainly had a bigger one - she literally saturated the industry and the world. AND that was before the internet was being heavily used for promotional purposes.

I think some people posting in this forum either weren't around or were too young to remember when Britney and Beyonce came on the scene.

She is well on her way to being a fully fledged legend and already at icon status whatever her critics want to say, she is recognised the world over and hasn't been around for long at all. Of course all other pressed stans are going to say it is delusion but her impact can't really be denied, that in itself would be delusional.
I have no doubt in my mind that 30 years down the line people will be listening to Bad Romance, Poker Face and whatever other hits she will throw our way in much the same way as we listen to Vogue, Livin' on a Prayer and Billie Jean. She is not the 'next' anyone, she is Lady Gaga and she is here to stay.

Uhm, its definantly been done before. Bowie? He started this pop **** and mashed it with pop. And what about Madonna? She deff had that pop-rock sound. Gaga's sound isnt even rock at all(singles). Gaga is a copycat, shes deff not what ur saying. I love her, but shes not original at all. Her only original moments were just dance and bad romance. But ill probably find out she sampled some **** with those songs too.

Actually, it's the other way around. The fact that anyone can launch their career through internet makes it easy to be extremely successful and cheap iTunes digital downloads make it even easier.
Therefore, nowadays, "legends" like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha achieve monstrous digital sales because of internet buzz and twitter followers.
Back in the physical era, you had to convince people to GO OUT OF THEIR HOMES and buy your PRICEY PHYSICAL ALBUM from a RECORD STORE. Doing so was hard and required huge performances, good, distinguishable songs, and true star quality.
Nowadays, all you have to do is click on a link, spend 0,99$ and you're done.
You can do that while chatting on msn or playing FarmVille on Facebook.
An iTunes add is enough to convince someone to buy a single or an album nowadays, making success much easier than in the past.
That explains why songs sound exactly the same nowadays - because people are casual buyers. They don't really care about what they purchase, since everything is so cheap and easy to get.

The Fame + it's re-release proved that Gaga achieved better sales than what Beyonce has ever scored, in every market of the world other than the US & the UK (where Beyonce has been bigger than Gaga at her peak).

You, like every other Madonna stan are obsessed with Beyonce and it's time to grow up (oops you probably did that 20 years ago) and get over yourself.

I actually prefer Beyonce by miles over Lady Gaga. Her solo album sales have never been impressive though, and I'm only stating facts.

Beyoncé, Britney and GaGa have equal statuses in terms of fame. They're all household names. Lady GaGa's fame is clearly growing and growing at a rapid rate, Beyoncé's moving at a slow rate and Britney's beggining to decline.... I know people will disagree with me on that but it's a simple fact that people(including the media) are caring less about Britney Spears more and more as they days go by. Her name will never be forgotten but her presence has been falling for quite a while. Same thing happened to Christina, everyone remembers her name and her hits but people don't care about her anymore now that they've got GaGa, RiRi, Katy etc.
Katy Perry and Rihanna are getting more famous too, but Kesha..... no.
