I just added this to the new thread rules, in case you didn't know...

Monthly threads (e.g. "August thread") are overflow threads for certain artists ONLY when they get too popular, after their previous thread expires.

Right now the only approved artists are Britney, Christina, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Ciara.

In other words, please DON'T make a new monthly thread for anyone else. There isn't enough discussion going on about them. We don't need it. Those artists are served just fine by regular news threads.

We will decide when an artist is so popular on ATRL that the discussion must continue in monthly threads.

And also I think we should include less Britney threads---I love Britney but it's hard to keep up when there are a million threads about the first single and there are two threads in two different sections about her going to a recording studio

BTW, the monthly threads were designed this way from the start. Threads in Music News expire after 30 days, so if there was a really popular and active discussion going on, it would have to be continued in a new thread for the next month. No one was ever supposed to start a brand new thread this way.

We approve and deny artists when the time is right. For example, Beyonce had monthly threads going for a while, but she doesn't right now. She might again when the discussion thread about her 2011 album expires next week.

Ciara is an anomaly; she's way more popular on ATRL than she is in real life.

I'm sure Rihanna will end up with monthly overflow threads again when the discussion about her next album gets out of control, too. But we're still a long, long way away from that right now.

All you need to know is, we'll make the first monthly thread for an artist when we need it. Don't make a new one for an artist if there wasn't already one for the previous month.

I think artists that are allowed monthly threads should also keep permission to make separate threads for big announcements (new single, album) because I can't take the time to go through 20 pages of stan chat. If it weren't for those separate threads, I wouldn't know about the single until I heard it on the radio weeks later.
