I respectfully disagree. Kelly can't smash on her own because of how the music industry has changed in the last few years. Sales are going down while streaming is going up. Kelly need to have a guest feature for her lead single who is really popular in streaming. This is required so that the album can have some legs to sell and hopefully increase Kelly's streaming power. I mean HBS was the lead single of the last era and it could not get into the top 20 on the Hot 100 chart. For comparison, look at how poorly Carrie is doing on the Hot 100 with the Storyteller era due to her weak streaming power. During the Blown Away era, she had two singles in the top 20. None of her singles this era made it into the top 40. So this is why it's important for Kelly to have a popular guest feature on the lead single to give her a boost on streaming and help with the album' SPS.

I think Kelly could smash with the right song, even as a solo artist. Streaming is very unpredictable sometimes, like Cheap Thrills coming out of nowhere and smashing.

If you have a hit, people will stream it. It will get added to a bunch of the playlists.

You might be right but I'd say that HBS was far from ideal situation. 1) it was not what people expected / wanted. 2) It failed to reach Kelly's target audience while also failing to reach younger generations. 3) Kelly's horrible terrible image at that time. 4) No promo until it was too late.

PBP proved that she can get a Top10 hit with the right material although it's clear that PBP was an exceptional situation. I think she can do fine with right material. But of course it's hard to make any predictions because it seems almost impossible to me to guess if a song becomes a hit or not...

It's not like the single was announced to be released on 1st April and now it's postponed to 31st May. The initial info was around Kelly's birthday - early or mid May still fits the description imo.

If this is going to be a summer single then it probably would do her good to have help since with the exception of Behind These Hazel Eyes all of her summer singles have either under performed or outright flopped. Though then again maybe Atlantic will have sense enough to not send mid tempo's or pseudo power ballads for the summer season and just send out a big, instantly catchy, attention grabbing song.

Imo that was the biggest problem with it. Like I get that they had to do promo for the album in the release week, but one-two performances there wouldn't have done any harm.

I feel they can organize them better this time given that they've done a pretty good job with almost everything in 2016.

Yeah summer singles I don't know why but they just don't do amazing. I think the exceptions were in 2003-2005, with Miss independent (I think it peaked in July) and Hazel Eyes.

But after that, My December was RCA's fault (will forever be angry at them because that album deserved SO MUCH!), and it was such an anticipated summer album; then, IDNHU in 2009, and it was cute but just didn't smash. then, 2012, Dark Side smashed in the clubs but just didn't do it anywhere else, the same with People Like Us the next year. And well, 2015, there was Invincible.......

Points taken. But streaming has grown a lot more powerful since HBS was released.

It amazed me yesterday when Heartbeat Song came on some music video channel and a few friends started discussing how much they love it. I don't understand why it appeals to the GP, it's so basic.

They should've released TYH tbh, but I think they were too afraid it's too "experimental" for her

Tbh, HBS is after Stronger and BOY Kelly's biggest hit in my country. I admit that it sounds pretty epic when it comes on radio. It has nice verses, great prechorus and bridge. But the chorus is just too much repetitive.
