Nah. Self-Titled got way more buzz than Lemonade, especially from the average listener. Lemonade I suppose was more of a critical success, but Self-Titled was a really big event when it happened

BEYONCE was acclaimed. The problem is that it was released on December 13th after all the critics year end lists were already released.

Lemonade is more acclaimed though.

If Lemon Juice wins AOTY it'll be undeserved.

ST had impact and critical as well. The thing was, it didn't top any critical lists cause it was released so late in the year. 3 years ago, ST wasn't even out and all these lists were coming out the same way.

ST was way more of an event and bigger in almost every way.

If LemonLegend wins AOTY it'll be truly deserved.

Frankly, LemonLegend has had longer legs than Self-Titled and I think that'll help.

Also, maybe people just forgot the significance of Self-Titled by the time award season came around. Pharrel even beat her in her "safe" category. The significance of Lemonade, however, has been reinforced by such a pervasive cultural narrative. You'd have to willfully overlook it if you wanted to vote for another album. Which I think will be hard for many people to do, especially black people.

This is what Nialler would call #BLM privilege. And it's 100% deserved in the case of this album.
