Your mum being a lesbian doesn't negate internalised homophobia. Firstly many peoples experience and feelings of female+female intimacy is very different from male+male intimacy. For one female homo-romanticism is a stable of our society, we're used to seeing it in media exploited as part of straight male fantasies but its also just a reality of many female friendships. They're comfortable being intimate whereas many males are not. If two women were holding hands or hugging tightly in the street people would pay no mind, nor would they automatically assume them to be lesbian. If two men were holding hands people would both stare and assume they're gay.

Firstly are you sure you're romantically attracted to girls? As oppose to just being more comfortable around them & being comfortably intimate with the ones you know very well?

Intimacy & comfort does not equate to romance but the line is blurry. I'd distinguish the two by the extent of feeling you experience. Do you ever go as far as to fantasise being intimate with girls & spend a lot of time thinking of them. Do you get feelings such as butterflies, strong jealousy or emotional dependency in relation to any girls you know/know of. If not I think what you're describing is a close friendship & bond, not necessarily romance.

If it was internal homophobia, understand that it doesn't mean hatred or anything. Its just more about conforming to the heteronormativity of society. I used to feel the same when I was a teen, it took me a while to even imagine 2 men forming a strong romantic relationship because me and my male friends were always pretty typical and not very intimate, whereas I was very loving with my female friends. I couldn't picture myself being with a lot of the men I was attracted to but I was envious of their girlfriends. Overcoming was down to several things but ironically one source was seeing straights engage in bromances that I thought were cute. Then I found that kind of stuff on tumblr and It made re-evaluate my feelings on the matter but experience & time was the ultimate truth teller.

I didn't have my first real romantic experience with a guy till I was was 21 and he's straight, like pretty much all of my male friends. After that and the strength of feelings I felt, I knew 100% that what I had experienced on a different level to just being really close. Being gay doesn't mean you have to feel a romantic way about every guy you meet or are physically attracted to, so just go with the flow. Keep meeting new people and be upfront & honest with your feelings. If you reach 30 and still feel the same then thats just you way you are, nothing wrong with that.

I don't think it's internalised homophobia, but if you're okay with this then you may have a few other issues to work through

I'm emotionally attracted to women and physically attracted to men, and that's just the way it is. the only "internalized homophobia" I have comes from dealing with the stupidity of narrow-minded and bigoted queers like the ones in this thread.

A lot of bisexuals are sexually attracted to one gender and romantically attracted to the other.
