I know she's not even trying when it comes to vocals on her own shows but she was out of tone and breath almost the whole time.

Out of tone ?
You mean key? You mean pitch? I watched MIA and the needed me performance > VMA's.
Rihanna slayed Man Down. She wasn't out of breath, and had more energy then I've seen her have in a LONG time. consideration was great she was vocalizing more than ever. Her voice is tired from Touring but that's VERY normal. It's obvious Rihanna has been caring for her voice because MIA> RIR. Vocally she's come MILES since 2014. She actually vocalizes, improvises, has started to include Melisma, and plays with her Headvoice instead of dodging the notes.
At the VMA's she sang OG in the same key without showing an ounce of strain. Comparing Rihanna to Ariana for example Rihanna has way more stamina, and breath control. She's not a vocalist per se but it's CLEAR she's been taking more lessons, and that she's started to act on the potential
I've been seeing all along.
Anti era put the notion of her "not being able to sing"
To rest.
