They should have *reset* the series when Ash lost to the legendary-guy of Sinnoh. Then, his team was so powerful and the fact that he went against both a Darkrai and Latios could have nicely summed up his journey. It could have wrapped up his adventure and set the scene for a new protagonist, new icon (not Pikachu), and re-launched a generation through God Unova and its 150+ Pokemon
I did not like how they reset Ash's life. Sure, we could say that they always reset it, but my point is that it made little sense to disengage his past victories when Unova hit. His regression as a trainer is unapologetic, and I would like to have seen a more re-launched series with new characters and new plots. We can argue that Ash experienced a low in Unova, but for me: it would be more interesting to have a fresh face in Pokemon, not so much Ash and Pikachu =O Yeah I said it. Sinnoh was an amazing opportunity for loosening the grip Ash and Pikachu have. I had even imagined a plot with Team Plasma, with a new protagonist
