If gaga has the opportunity to perform and promo anywhere she should do it. It can only help.
Well.. She can perform it on the VMAs and wait till September to release it.
I mean, it worked for Beyoncé with "Formation". She performed it on the SuperBowl and when the song was released with the album on iTunes, people bought like crazy. (I know Formation was available on Tidal but being available on Tidal is the same as nothing lol)

She ain't gonna perform at the VMAs. It would make zero sense to make her a surprise act sincr the GP ain't really holding her breath for her comeback. That would work for Bruno or Eminem, not Gaga.
I guess they did their nath and they rather release a week or 2 after the VMAs when the sales boosts die off.

I disagree, I feel like everyone wants a new Lady Gaga single and a comeback.
The only reason why they announced the single now imo is because they wanted to shut up all the rumors about August 19/26 and the VMAs so the fans finally know what's going on. I wouldn't hold my breath about her performing there.
