I've embraced my tan skin. I actually love it. But yeah, I can't at a lot of people here wanting to bleach their skin when they obviously look fine as they are. But whatever floats their boat I guess

The caste system isn't just Indian and it's not based on skin color. The vast majority of the Indian immigrants you see in the US are dark-skinned and they're mostly "forward" caste.

False. All the colorism in Asia predates European colonialism. But yes, there is a racial element involved in many parts because Asians aren't a race and lighter Asians are often different racially like in South Asia.

They do get criticized for bleaching, just like everyone else. Everyone who bleaches does so because they think lighter skin is more desirable, or looks better. And when someone is criticizing bleaching, they are calling out the act of bleaching, and all who bleach, at the same time.

This basically. Bleaching is seen as a strange practice in the west, but it's as normal as brushing your teeth in many Asian countries. Most Bollywood stars and Asian celebrities endorse bleaching creams too which further motivates people to believe that lighter = beautiful = successful.

Um but Asians make up the majority of the world If you're talking about Asian Americans, then this is unfounded since skin-bleaching is not the norm for Asian Americans in general. I go to a large university in California and the way I differentiate between International Asian students and Asian American students is by their skin color. International Asians usually have milky-white skin because of the beauty standards in Asia while Asian Americans are usually tanner since they grew up in the United States where colorism isn't as extreme. Regarding the blonde hair and blue eyes by Asian Americans, you can blame this on the lack of representation of Asians in American media.

As for the OP, what should be dragged is the society that forces these people to lighten their skin color to be considered beautiful. Also, just a note, colorism in Asia originated waaaay before European colonialism infiltrated Asia. It reinforced but it wasn't the root of colorism, so yeah, not everything is about worshipping white people.
