I would say homophobia. It's still a criminal offense to be gay in many countries and many countries are ensuring gay rights advances never happen in their countries with many recent marriage bans and anti-sodomy laws.
The concept of someone being gay is way more foreign to common folk than seeing someone of a different race.
It's also easier for people to condemn any racial discrimination, whereas not everyone might be confident enough to come to the defense of the dirty gays in fear of being branded gay themselves, being made fun of and being treated with the same prejudice.
