I'm struggling to find a place for Kylie. I feel she's so essential, just not Top 15.
If there was a bit more space, I'd include Erykah Badu as well, but I can't.

Anyhow, I think my list is more or less ready.

One modern "pop girl" name will end up very high on my list
a) because I think she is already up there with the greats,
b) because her career trajectory is a great indication that she will end up there even if she's not quite there yet.

Personally, it's strange to me that Kate Bush has not made an album that I would consider in my Top3 although most of her albums come close, yet she topped my list.

I don't think there was ever a female as consistent as her in terms of quality, imo.

Ye, it's never too late. Just start with essential albums / artists.
Quite often one album will be enough to introduce you to an artist.
You can take it from there, if you like it, you explore the artist further, if not, just move on to the next one.

With a lot of artists especially pre-album era, it's very easy to just get Greatest Hits / Essential Collections.

Obviously a lot of those major artists will have tons of songs, even in their Greatest Hits collection. Lets be real, it's really hard to get into 20-30 songs at once. For that, you can start with their most essential or acclaimed songs. Acclaimedmusic.net is a fantastic site for discovering new stuff.

Choose an artist, go through their top acclaimed albums or songs. Pick what you like, add to your collection. Soon enough you'll have a great library and never look back.

If anyone's interested, I was thinking to make a playlist with a lot of the ladies mentioned so far, before the final submission date. A For Your Consideration playlist I guess.

Anyone for it? It'd be 1-2 songs per act.

That would be a cool idea! You could even make an open playlist where people can add FYCs that they think of, and then while we compile our lists we can refer back to see who we'd want to add to our own.

Since I mentioned Tori earlier, I just had to play Cornflake Girl again and remind myself that the song became a hit for her, making her album go double platinum despite not having an actual chorus.

And still, it's quite catchy as far as a Tori song goes. Her piano playing in this song is really fire.
