These factors, along with her upcoming Grammys appearance and Jay Z’s considerable clout, should also boost ticket sales for her tour, which have not been great in the early going.
I wonder if her death will be a bigger event/upset than Michael's. She has a better legacy.
MJ, Whitney died tragically and the media loves that they makes the story bigger and bigger so the fact that they died has very much saturated the public consciousness. Is not that they were bigger or more important is just how the media spins the story because of how they passed. M won't go that tragically i believe.
David Bowie is pretty much general culture. I get old people not knowing/liking his songs but they knew who he was.

Very true. He is a much bigger legend than Madonna. This is why in the end record sales don't matter. Whitney sold much more than him but his death was bigger and he has influenced a much wider spectrum of artists who carry his legacy.
Of course you won't want people to actually remember Joanne her music.
She already can't fill the mold perfectly because she is one of the most successful popstars of all time (she has commercial success, the brand, acclaim, weirdness, edginess, hits, album sales, etc.) but she can come close if she keeps her career path where she's going.
Some use it. It used to be v prestigious but in the 90s it started getting alot of flack for the selective choices made by 3 or 5 members that made up the committee. Basically it's up to how the individual views it.
Heroes is known by everyone (and one of his few good songs), so Bowie definitely had at least one true classic. Most people know Space Oddity, Life on Mars, Let's Dance etc too
He's huge in the UK, as well. America has poor taste (hence things like Brittany and Flo Rida being big here)
