We started the game in November of 2014 and we will wrap it up TODAY - January, 27th of 2016. Are you ready?
Since we reached the final, the public was asked to rank the top 3 - #1 being the best and #3 the weakest. We only managed to have six voters but they were counted and the final ranking made into points. The same applied to the judge who ranked every song. Again, 50% of the final choice goes to the public, 50% to the public. Here's thepoints distribution for this final round:
1. 75 Points
2. 50 Points

2. IN CASE THERE'S A TIE IN THE PUBLIC VOTE, WHOEVER GOT MORE SAVE VOTES GETS AHEAD BUT IF THE AMOUNT OF SAVE VOTES IS THE SAME, WHOEVER DID BETTER IN THE JUDGES VOTES, GETS AHEAD;
3. IN CASE THERE'S A TIE IN THE JUDGES VOTES, WHOEVER DID BETTER IN THE PUBLIC VOTE GETS AHEAD;

It was the year I conquered my independence as an adult, I made my own money, I would do whatever I wanted to do and with a lot of liberty, you can put yourself in a lot of weird and bad situations. Eventhough I called it an amazing year, I did have my moments, hence the mega hiatus of this game. I am not going into details but I would like to apologize to each and every one of you that could have been offended by my lack of interest in the game, especially to the contestants and to the judges as they were the ones who put a lot of effort in the game. I am so sorry but I'd like to say Thank You for supporting this game through every time and for always cheering me up.
Thank You, Guys!

Nice choice, I can see some earth elements in the song.
Water - Carolina - 3/10
I don't really agree with this choice, it's a bit water, but it sounds more like a wind kind of song to me.
Wind - Love In High Places - 7/10
I wasn't very sure at the beginning, but the last 2 mins of the song is very wind.
Fire - Teen Heat - 10/10
Perfect choice!
Ether - 90s Music - 6/10
The song is good, but you could've done a better essay to convince us why this is the core of the album!
Final score: 34/50
As a whole, your entry is just ok, the essays were the main problem here. Good luck!
2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope
Ether - Together Again - 10/10
Perfect choice, can't think of a better song to represent ether!
Water - What About - 10/10
Another great choice, your essay is on point!
Fire - Rope Burn - 10/10
This song is definitely the definition of fire, the lyrics are
Earth - Got 'Til It's Gone - 8/10
The song isn't really about resisting change, it's about regret. However, you nailed the explanation in your essay and made me kind of agree with your choice.
Wind - Every Time - 10/10
Another great choice!
Final score: 48/50
As a whole, you really slayed this final round, I can see you put effort in every single part of your entry: song choices, essay and formatting! Congrats and good luck!
3. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Earth - Head Over Feet - 8/10
This song isn't really about resisting to change, it's about changing. However, I can see your point, just like Luigi's, your essay made me kind of agree with your choice here.
Water - Hand In My Pocket - 9/10
Good choice and essay!
Fire - You Oughta Know - 10/10
Amazing choice, you couldn't have picked a better song for fire!!
Wind - You Learn - 10/10
Perfect choice! Let me take this moment to thank you for introducing me to this song earlier in the game. I instantly fell in love with it and went to listen to the full album, which happens to be a timeless classic indeed!
Ether - Ironic - 10/10
I love how you managed to connect this song with ether, great job!
Final score: 47/50
As a whole, your entry is pretty solid, you really did give it your best, I loved that you put little definitions of the elements! Getting to know this album was the best thing of this season for me! Congrats and good luck!

Maybe some more detail about earth itself would've helped get your imagery across better but overall a decent start.
8/10
Water - Carolina
Perfect song choice and nice description. It's a bit short though.
8/10
Air - Love In High Places
Great song choice. The description is totally on point.
10/10
Fire - Teen Heat
Couldn't have hit this any more accurately. Besides just the play on the title the song description matched what you said about fire well.
10/10
Ether - 90s Music
Some more details about how it fits into the core of the album would have helped but overall a great choice for your conclusion.
8/10
2. Luigi - The Velvet Rope
Ether - Together Again
I like the way you identified ether. It's a nice way to make it fit into the theme and you really stuck with it all the way through your description.
9/10
Water - What About
This was a bit of a miss for me. Your description briefly mentions the key characteristic of water you mentioned but strays from it the rest of the way.
5/10
Fire - Rope Burn
Now we're talking. It's a very passionate and sexy song. No other I think would have fit this any better and you stuck with your theme all the way through.
10/10
Earth - Got Til It's Gone
I can tell you struggled with this one. It feels very forced but you really tried to make this fit into earth's description. It works but it's not perfect.
6/10
Air - Every Time
This would have been perfect but your three nouns don't match perfectly with your song's description. It isn't cohesive enough.
6/10
3. Capital B - Jagged Little Pill
Earth - Head Over Feet
Brilliant job including the description of earth. That basis fits the song so well and you really brought that out.
10/10
Water - Hand In My Pocket
Another knockout. I get that fluid and positive feel from the song just as you mentioned.* One of my favorite Alanis songs ever too.
10/10
Fire - You Oughta Know
Your fire description doesn't really mention anger. Fire usually does spring to mind angry emotions but the song and description aren't a perfect match. The passion bit with the body heat was great though.
8/10
Wind - You Learn
Even before I read the song's description I knew it was perfect for what you described as wind represents. Growing and changing like the wind is a perfect way to describe this song.
10/10
Ether - Ironic
Life is definitely out of our control. It's a force no one can grasp. Ironic's lyrics tell of these life moments perfectly and your matching of this song to ether is "heavenly". I wouldn't have changed a thing.
10/10
I just want to add good luck to all three of you. Thanks for playing along through this game's ups and downs. I'll be glad to see any of these albums win. Be proud of making it here.

1. “Slum Love” – Earth – I think this is a pretty strong choice. I wish you had delved in a little more to the “dry and cold” description that you reference at the beginning, as I see those two aspects in the production and instrumental of the song. There’s a certain quality in the background of the track that seems very dry, rough, and unpolished, like raw earth is. The repetitive opening lyrics of the track, “it’s all about work” are perfect for earth, as that is a very grounded and firm mentality, exemplified by the element. You could have definitely touched upon these aspects as well! 8.5/10
2. “Carolina” – Water – This track definitely has some connections to water, which you briefly discussed in your essay. I think you could have gone deeper than just this one lyrical interpretation, however. In my opinion, the track is a little too percussive to fully represent this flowing element. I do recognize some instrumental nuances (like those chimes in the middle) that remind me of water. 7.5/10
3. “Love in High Places” – Wind – I think this is another strong choice. Lyrically, I totally get the connection you are making, and I think it’s really cool how love and air can be compared as such. You touched on transcendental qualities here, and I think that was brilliant. Again, you could have pulled apart these lyrics even more. For example, many of the lines in the chorus remind me of the invisible omnipresence of the air element. (Find me in the forest in the fire/Find me in the midst of your desire… Find me in the secrets, in the lies/Find me in the darkest place/And in the light) All of those lines could have worked well for your explanation. Also, the last few seconds of this song are really reminiscent of wind and wind instruments! 9/10
4. “Teen Heat” – Fire – A good choice, but a lackluster essay that only touches the outside border of the element. I think this song has some great fiery qualities that were not discussed in your description. Usage of words such as “friction,” and that extremely sensual exhale definitely make the listener picture fire. It has a good amount of energy, too. 7.5/10
5. “90s Music” – Ether – This is a great choice for ether! I definitely agree with you that “90s Music” is the intrinsic element of this album, and it is a true representation of Kimbra’s unique artistry. Ether, or quintessence, is sometimes thought of a combination of the qualities of the other four elements, and I loved your line about how Kimbra has combined all of her energy and ideas into this song. That really drove the point home, in my opinion. 9.5/10
Overall: Thank you for sharing this unique album with us this season! I have enjoyed it a lot, and Kimbra is quite an artist. Your final entry was solid, but I definitely expected some more from you in the finale. You definitely could have gone deeper, as I know you can and have done in the past. I applaud you for sticking around in the game and competing. Overall, your song choices were on point, essays not so much. A decent element compilation! 42/50
Luigi – Janet Jackson – The Velvet Rope
1. “Together Again” – Ether – This is my personal favorite song off of the album. It’s such a feel-good pop gem! I think your explanation is strong, and sells two great points as to why this track represents the element of ether. The concept of death/heaven in relation to ether is very smart, and I agree with your reasoning that “Together Again” takes you to another level entirely. It really does lift you up! The one thing that I wish you had gone into is how this song represents the “core” of your entry, and of the album. 9.5/10
2. “What About” – Water – Quite an interesting song for the element of water. When listening to it, I noticed how the song has a memorable duality – there are very soft, flowing verses, and then rather intense, strong choruses. As an element, water is a paradox – it can both give life and take it away very quickly. It can heal and restore, but also destroy and drown. This contrast is represented so well in the song, and I wish you had touched upon it! Your essay’s main points about the sea-influenced introduction, and the overall themes of change and revival, however, are great for this element. 9/10
3. “Rope Burn” – Fire – Woo, what a sultry song! Those moans are intense. The balance of passion and pain is amazing. I really have no criticisms or comments here. This is a perfect representation of fire in so many ways, and your essay hits the main points. 10/10
4. “Got ‘Til It’s Gone” – Earth – I have to admit that I was not really a fan of this song in relation to the earth element when I first listened to it. The strong, stable percussion was a standout, but the rest of the instrumental and production was kind of underwhelming. However, after reading your explanation, I am mostly sold on this comparison! Lyrically, it’s a very smart choice, and I appreciate how you touched upon the quality of ‘resisting change,’ which is a major part of the earth element. Word choices like ‘built’ and ‘embed’ were also used appropriately to drive home your point. Probably your weakest selection overall, but definitely not bad. 8.5/10
5. “Every Time” – Wind – A really great choice. This song reminds me of a nice, summer breeze, full of benevolence and compassion, as you emphasized. Her voice is definitely fragile, as you said. Good use of wind-like qualities, and a strong description. 9.5/10
Overall: You have been a dark horse in this competition, for sure. I have loved reading your entries this season! You brought a fresh perspective to each song, and were always eloquent and creative. Thank you for your strong work. This final entry was very cohesive and complete. It totally showed that you put a lot of thought into it, and overall, it was outstanding. On an added note, I loved the simplistic yet impactful formatting with the album cover. Bravo! 46.5/50
Capital B – Alanis Morissette – Jagged Little Pill
1. “Head Over Feet” – Earth – A fantastic choice for the element of earth. The song is edgy and tough, and really reminds me of rocks and stones. I love your description, and the interesting spin of how this love is chipping away to show the multiple layers of Alanis, the stone, is genius. You really dug deep into the meaning of this song, and clearly created a believable, strong metaphor. 10/10
2. “Hand In My Pocket” – Water – Thematically, I think you hit the nail on the head. The concepts of going with the flow, and adapting/changing despite obstacles are really the core characteristics of the water element. Alanis’ fluidity is clear in this song. I think that the background guitar is a nice, aquatic sounding instrumental, but the harmonica and her vocals do kind of jar a bit on the ‘flow’ of the song. 9/10
3. “You Oughta Know” – Fire – Alanis’ voice is so perfect for the element of fire. It has that passion and destructive nature as seen in a flame. This song is a perfect selection, filled with rage and a caustic after-burn. I totally agree with all of your sentiments. I love the “spitting fire” analogy! 10/10
4. “You Learn” – Wind – I get the general idea of your concept for this track; however, I think your explanation ultimately leaves the reader a bit lost. It touches around the edges, but I think you could have pushed this explanation farther. Overall, it is a decent comparison, and a smart way of looking at this element. 8.5/10
5. “Ironic” – Ether – My favorite Alanis song – such a great track. I really love the angle from which you approached this description, and it works perfectly. The concept of ether and things outside of our control are strong parallels. On a side note, I do wish you had discussed a bit how this song represented the core of your entry and the album. But, excellent, overall! 9.5/10
Overall: This season, your entries have been fantastic. You’ve been such a strong competitor since day one, and your enthusiasm for Alanis’ album was always present in your writing. I loved your final entry, and I thought your connections were really well explained and well thought-out. Your introduction and conclusion really tied your entire entry and season-wide portfolio together, and I agree that this album has all of the elements that it takes to win. You’ve absolutely proven this time and time again. Thank you for your hard work, and I think you have a great chance of winning! 47/50

Morissette is a ball of emotions and this is evident on Jagged Little Pill. Listening to all the songs presented in your entry, I was really wonderstruck how they all fit perfectly to the element that they are being associated with. All of them being released as singles, I wonder if Morissette knew what she was doing - and we're only discovering that now. To see human feelings and characteristics being defined by all the elements that drive the world is really telling of how we are all connected - and this album is perfect for demonstrating that.
Head Over Feet is the epitome of the Earth element represented through human form. Morissette shows her resistance to change - "You treat me like a princess, I'm not used to liking that", her stubbornness - "I couldn't help it, it's all your fault", her confidence - "I've never wanted something rational, I am aware now", and her hinting at being stone-hearted and portraying the helpless state of stones - "I had no choice but to hear you".
Morissette hints what element she is talking about in Hand in My Pocket while she sings "what it all boils down to". Surely enough, Water is perfectly represented by all the lines in the song demonstrating change and adaptation. She shows that even though we're in a particular situation, we can be somewhere else or feel a different way. Your write-up for this one got a lower score because I think it bears a bit of repetitive thoughts and could've been more concise.
We are often too afraid to stand or dare, and in the process we stay static in our emotions and the world we built for ourselves. Morissette encourages us to break this shell in You Learn - "Feel free", because that's how you grow and even if you win or fail, it would have been a worthwhile experience because you learn from it. All of this makes the song the embodiment of what Wind represents.
You showed a different aspect of Fire by portraying its mental and emotional side. You Oughta Know is filled with drive and passion from start to finish, making Morissette seem like a raging fire, and she even make reference to sex at several points of the song.
Ironic is one of those songs that make you think about life, and instantly, it fits the Ether element. It opens with references to death and goes on questioning the absurdities of life and our existence. By displaying all these, Morissette hints at what Jagged Little Pill is about. Ironic therefore is the quintessential song, and given that Ether is the most important element, it all fits in perfectly.
Your entries were always a pleasure to read for the way you present them - always so eloquent and classy, with great language. I can always feel your passion in your essays, as well as in your presence in the game, and this is such a great thing to see. Being in the finale of a game twice really says a lot, and hats off for that. Good luck in the final results, and congratulations for making it this far! |

TOTAL: 43.2 / 50 | Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo
Kimbra spent time in a farm in 2013 and derived inspiration from her surroundings to create this album. Successfully, The Golden Echo turned out to be a visual representation of elements, as can be seen on the album cover, as well as in the lyrics.
In Slum Love, Kimbra reassures us that "it's all about work, work, work", and proves it with the lines of hardship and muscles, "you've had me pumping iron, working the mines from the night until the break of day. Baby, shackles on my ankles, your ropes around my hands". She wants things to remain the same - "I never wanted a Utopia, or a rise and demise" - a vital characteristic of this element. Gravity is also associated to Earth, and Kimbra show two signs of it. The mental state of being serious, "this ain't some kind of game", and the force of attraction "Why do I always fall for you".
The verses of Carolina represents the change aspect of Water, as well as personal growth, as Kimbra realizes that it's time to start anew and go away. The chorus however shows that all those desires are just in her head as she sings, "in my heart I know I can't keep running away". Her lover is where she wants to be even if she wants to take her mind off him, and whenever she'll dream of getting away, "in [her] heart [she knows] it's time to come back", meaning to a "home" that does not do her much good. Her reluctancy for actually changing represents the adaptation aspect of Water, and I find it genius how both sides of the element is shown in this song.
"Find me in the forest, in the fire. Find me in the midst of your desire". Like air, Kimbra reveals that she is everywhere in Love In High Places, and even show signs of growth by being a savior. She ends on a note of wisdom, "Love will surely break your heart, then set you free", and all these are characterized by Wind. The line that I find most interesting is "I will be your danger when you think nothing can change you" because it's truly demonstrative of how this 'wind' can change the course of life.
Filled with sexual puns revolving around the "heat of the moment" phrase, Teen Heat demonstrates both energetic movements - "If I cannot stop, there is going to be no coming back. Each time that you stop I can only think about running back" - and body heat - "That friction pulling me, started everything, and it feels so good".
You took a different approach for Ether by catering to its 'most important' factor, instead of talking about what it represents as an element. Your essay rightfully shows how 90s music is the essential song on The Golden Echo that represents Kimbra as a complete artist. However the song itself demonstrate really little of Ether. The only lines that I thought touched home was "Romance from the book, sun-drunk desire. Summer night star-gaze, hands to the sky", and a hint of the ability to communicate, "You moved to the burbs, many words you meant".
You've always been either really high in my ranks, or really low. I'd like you to be enthusiastic more often because when you want it, you can get it, and I think you can do wonders. Your entries are always well-written and I like how direct and clear you are. Good luck on the final results, and congratulations for making it this far! |

TOTAL: 39.8 / 50 | Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope
The Velvet Rope is Jackson's most personal, and conveys a spectrum of emotions. Getting out a difficult period of her life to standing tall in the end makes of her a mother figure of sort - representative of Mother Earth - and this album is her book of life portraying all the different elements.
"If I could turn back the hands of time, I'd make you fall in love with me again" is suggestive of how Jackson does not want to move on. However, the overall Got 'Til It's Gone has more of a sense of regret to it and doesn't make her seem very confident in herself, which is a characteristic of Earth.
What About makes reference to "the beach" on the opening line, and certainly, the song fits the Water element perfectly. Jackson doesn't want to be with her abusive lover anymore - "don't want to live my life in misery" - so she decides to break free from what's hurting her - a sign of change as designated by Water.
Jackson talks about her failed relationship and how she fears to fall back in love in the verses of the Every Time, which portrays the opposite aspect of Wind. However, in the chorus and in the end, she reveals that even if she's adament on falling in love, "the fear does start to erase every time", showcasing the growth and open-minded aspect of the element.
"Can you feel the warmth of the fire?" Rope Burn is the epitome of Fire, explicitly drawing the picture of a heated session filled with passion and desire, all while making references to fire.
On the other end of the spectrum, Jackson talks about the "above and beyond" in Together Again to represent Ether, another song she excelled in portraying one of the elements as she makes reference to the spirit realm.
You made great song choices, but I've noticed that you like to be detailed and intricate through your essays to make sure that the reader understand it. This is a great quality, but I think that you can do so while being concise without repeating the same thoughts twice. You also have a way to put a personal touch in your entries, which us relate to what you are saying, and I think this is a great asset. Good luck on the final results, and congratulations for making it this far! |

Pedro: Voting as part of public vote
1. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo (5,9)
Slum Love (3/10)
I really am all for originality but this challenge asked you to interpretate those meanings of the Wikipedia page and you completely changed it to your own. In the page it talks about something that lasts, something that goes through time and does not change and in this song, Kimbra is all for change. You confirm it.
Carolina (7/10)
Eventhough you paid zero attention to the Wikipedia page again, this time you kind of guessed it. The element is about changing and she does want to change to then settle down. The song is actually pretty cool as well, so you got this one!
Love In High Places (4/10)
I really enjoy this song, you know that but, again, I felt like you completely ignored the knowledge base. There was literally no connection to what was requested.
Teen Heat (8,5/10)
What a flawless song! I don’t think you read the article (again) but you justification makes total sense and fits with ‘fire’ element description. The song is also very explosive which is good.
90s Music (7/10)
I would not say it is the core but it surely is the most important and I am glad you actually followed the rules. Your explanation lacks elements of the real knowledge base but it is not that bad or inaccurate. You did good. The song does represent her.
2. Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope (8,8)
Together Again (10/10)
I wouldn’t change a single word on that brief essay. It was on point and I am mesmerized by how good you were with this little intro. Flawless!
What About (8/10)
One more time, I enjoyed your little essay but it wasn’t as complete as the first part. I wish you’d have focused on how sonically it is so different from her material due to the rockish parts. Nonetheless, you were on point using the knowledge base eventhough ‘water’ can mean adapting as well, not only changing.
Rope Burn (6/10)
I do like the song and I loved your essay but I am not quite sure about the song choice (sonically) as ‘fire’ screams energy and I feel none here. I have mixed feelings.
Got ‘Til It’s Gone (10/10)
I am living for this interpretation of yours. Eventhough the song does not relate to things that prevail through time, it does have the idea embedded in it as you said.
Every Time (10/10)
Just like the previous song, you kind of nailed it. You made your own interpretation and that was quite cute! Very good job!
3. Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill (9,5)
Head Over Feet (7,5/10)
I feel like you were a bit abstract and for someone that is not as familiar (as you) with Alanis, I feel a bit confused. I understand the first part but the second part was a bit confusing as it represents change or adapting. Nonetheless, you were on point and I love how you personalized the song as Alanis.
Hand In My Pocket (10/10)
I feel like you ended up contradicting yourself on this one. In ‘Head Over Feet’ you said she is stubborn and does not go along with the flow but here you did. That’s what made me confused about the previous entry. As for this song, I think you nailed it.
You Oughta Know (10/10)
There you go! The essay was short but simple and very effective! I agree with all of it and how it represents fire so well!
You Learn (10/10)
I feel like you just needed this song’s title to own it.
Ironic (10/10)
What can I say?

I thought this was a new season, but I realised it's the one that I last played in the start of last year.
Congrats Capital B on the win! If my memory didn't fail me, you were indeed an amazing writer, so this is well deserved!
