It's not an "excuse." Hardly any major pop albums came out that year; getting the last nomination spot is not that hard when the only other act who could reasonably get it is One Direction.
Notice that Ultraviolence was not nominated the following year in a crowded year with Miley, Coldplay, Ariana, Katy, and Sam Smith as the nominees.
Welp. This award goes to those who dedicate a ton of time to hate and obsess over Gaga, her diamond awards, her touring receipts, her photo shoots etc. They aren't fans but they might as well be.
Gaga has never come close to making an album as good as ultraviolence and probably never will so.

What's not subjective is success, acclaim & popularity. And Gaga crushes/crunches/annihilates Lana in every single aspect. Like, they never even came close to being "competitors" because Lana has always been wayyyyyyy behind.
